hi everyone
i'm sure i'm going to get flamed for asking this! but what should i do for a tune up in general? i'm thinking of changing my spark plugs and wires out. for some ngk iridium IX and the ngk wires as well. but, what about the distributor cap and rotor? is stuff from kragens just fine like the bosch stuff? or do i need to get the oem nissan rotor n distributor.
thanks for helping!

fuel filter helps too, won't notice anything but its nice and probably new hoses because they love to crack

change sparkplugs, clean maf sensor, check timing, clean air filter, change oil filter, change oil, change fuel filter. that should be good.

Autolite Platinums are a good budget plug for us S14 guys... being that our factory plugs are platinum.

everyone has pretty much hit the nail on the head, but alot of people who have previously owned these vehicles tend to neglect the trans and diff fluids so give those a good revamping. Also i would check the rad fluids because these also tend to build up corrosion over time ( burgundy water FTL!) so give that a good flushing. Cap and rotor as well like you have stated would be nice to do as well. oh yeah and don't forget to clean the idle air control valve.

depending on how many miles since last tune up might need new fuel filter. also change the belts if their messed up. the distributor cap should be ok to change jus dont touch the needle thingy and throw off your timing. everything else people already stated.

i recently cleaned my aicv and to get to it you need to take off the intake runners, plenum, the bracket on the bottom that supports the plenum, take off the bracket the hold the plenum to the block, which is on the plenum next to the throttle body and is about 3 inches long horizontally. also disconnect the cold pipe and vacuume lines that attach to the throttle body. as i discovered..there are two coolant lines that run into the throttle body, you may have to take those off. also there are vacuume lines that are on top as well as fuel lines that need to be disconnected. after you take that stuff off the plenum and runners should slide off fairly easily, then take the aicv off clean with throttle body cleaner and check the continuity of the electronics. be sure to get new gaskets good luck! might want to clean the throttle body while you're at it

why do all that when you can just spray a can of throttle body cleaner into the tube that leads to the iacv and not dismantle the manifold?

+1 for common sense. Pulling the intake runners is way too much work for a new owner to go through and involves too much to mess up and or break. Carb cleaner down the tube ftw.

3.5 quarts of oil
oil filter
new magnetic drain plug and gasket
cap & rotor
spark plugs
ignition wires
fuel filter
air filter
oxygen sensor
1 can of maf sensor cleaner, spray maf...
1 can of seafoam, suck half a can through the vaccum line going to your brake booster and put the rest in your gas tank and nun it almost empty before you do your tuneup.
thats what i do every 6 months. but im sure i drive my car harder then you do.
