View Full Version : S13 owners, who wants some Trust/Greddy DD exhaust?

Sonic Motor

Ok, looking for some opinion from all you S13 owners!

Trying to see if it will be worth it to bring back the (discontinued)Trust DD catback exhaust.

Yup, might be able to bring the Trust DD without the Greddy/Trust name.
But still made by Trust, and made in Japan.

Looking at about $500 each (give or take) for brand new catback systems.

So whos interested?

For those who dont know, heres a pic:

i'd be interested for 200 bucks.

make it like dart izumi. 3in cat back and separate into dual pipes after the axle flange. no need for a muffler.

and who cares if it's made in japan? i mean, its a plus.. but 500 bucks because its made in japan by trust? who cares... its just a few sections of welded pipe...

well, i agree its not as aggressive as the dark izumi, but the Trust DD is a great exhaust. It actually has a muffler. When you have the silencer on, its pretty quiet.

Bushido
12-10-2007, 03:11 PM
i don't doubt that it isn't a great exhaust, for 500 bucks it should be.

what i'm saying is, you should look into a lower cost alternative...
mufflers make things more expensive (and in my opinion are unnecessary).

240 owners are cheap and not many are going to want to spend 500 on an exhaust, even if its made by a super JDM brand.
Lower that price by 300 and you have expanded your potential market exponentially.

Well, bring back a discontinued exhaust isnt going to be cheap.

I know exactly what you mean by the people unwilling to pay the premium price.

IF this exhaust is going to be bring back to life, it will be very limited I suppose, and of course, very exclusive.

If people want cheap exhaust, there are plenty of alternative such as the buddy club(pretty much just a pipe, stupid loud, bad for streets), or cheap ebay knock offs :)

I think it's a good idea though, if it's made by Trust, at least it'll fit right (unlike e-bay knockoffs).

COunt me in if I end up with a s13! How loud are these? You said earlier they are quiet, but what exactly is quiet? Is it going to be quieter than apexi GT, Blitz nur, etc?

I would definitly buy one if it is!

Also is there anyway I can get instant notification when/if this happens so I can be on board if they are limited quantity?

It has a muffler, and comes with 2 silencers. Its pretty quite with stock SR.
Its way more quiet apexi GT and nur spec. Those 2 are canister type exhaust, so yeah....

The Trust DD actually resonate sound, and dual exit helps with noise reduction. And it looks bitchin' hahah

If I decide to sell it, I'll start a group buy on zilvia. So you wont miss it ;)

im sure they will come in a trust box, and still have the JASMA stamp on them.
It will still be exported from japan, and marked "made in japan"

There are many ways to show that its made by trust. Just trying to see who would be interested.

Also for the people who think $500 is too much, what do you guys a reasonable price would be?

I agree.

It's really hard to sell anything to S-Chassis guys brand new, unless it's cheap.

Because most of the new kids are cheap asses, and most of the old school guys have either:

A) Done cars

B) Big plans and don't roll with the fads.

The cheaper that you make it, the more people will buy it. That's obvious I know, but it's the rule of thumb when it comes to selling to the S-Chassis guys until they get real jobs.

They are discontinued because I guess its not worth it for them to keep selling it? In order to get them to start making it again, gotta ask the person in charge, and purchase them in bulk? Havent worked out the fine details yet. But word from Trust is....its doable, they still have the equipment to make it.

Its gonna have a JASMA stamp, and i never said its gonna be stamped as made by them. It might be stamped somewhere...like i said, havent worked out the fine details of it. But its gonna be legit.

I remember reading about this somewhere too, I think it was on the Club4ag boards.

Trust said they would manufacture it again if they got a minimum # of orders. I believe it something that's been "known" or at least referenced here on this board a few times also -- they can make it, if they get a large enough order (My memory is bad, but it could be as few as 20, maybe even just 10, to get them to produce an order).

I also understand your concern about getting interest in an exhaust and deposits so you don't waste your time or money with extra exhausts that no one will pay for.

$500 seems like a good price, but I think Scott (240FaLKoN) covered it pretty well regarding most S-Chassis owners. I'd like to think I'm part of the "older crowd" as I've purchased my exhaust and "finished" my car --- I've got to focus my finances on something else now. I'm happy with my current exhaust and really have no plans to "upgrade", even if it was $200.

I recommend you search out those "WTB - Greddy DD" posts on here as there are a few people who would pay that, and with the interest you have in the thread now -- you should be able to fill the required order.

Good luck!

On a personal note, I think it would be great to show the vendors that we like their product and that they is/always will be a market for 240sx parts in the US.

probably the main reason why it'll be so expensive is because of shipping costs

shipping something like an exhaust will probably be 1/4 of the tag price

the exhaust sounds awesome on my stock KA and it does hang a bit low because of the resonator.

trust dd > dart

anyone can make a dart. its a simple straight pipe.....they sound like shit compared to the DD because they are made with stainless all around while the DD is mild steel. Mild steel resonates a lot better giving that deep tone while the dart sounds raspy and shit

my boy has a dart on his s13 and he would trade it for a DD any day

240trainee
12-14-2007, 08:44 AM
Didn't know that about mild steel v. stainless.

Throw a glasspack on the dart, good to go. I plan on making my own with a cherry bomb and aspec blast pipes.

gonna be sick.

the part about shipping isnt true. most likely what will happen is that Trust JPN will make the exhaust and throw it on their containers to GReddy. So shipping would be no different.

Yup, it would have to be more than 10.

We are dealing with a manufacturer, not a small little shop that makes everything by hand.

Just wanna make sure this point gets across...
Trust DD is a discontinued exhaust.
Its an exhaust that is made for street and track.
Muffler that resonates sound, and silencer for the streets.

Dart Izumi and the other mufflers that were mention does not even compare...because those things are soooo loud, its not streetable here in LA.

Especially when cops are cracking down on people with modified exhausts.

i have a S13 and the Trust DD was the exhaust i wanted the most for the car. but it was so rare at the time and no one could get one that i ended up getting a blitz nur-spec. now don't get me wrong i love my blitz:rawk: i've had it on a few other cars in the past and it's always a good choice. i just really love the look of the sleek twin pipes and it just looks smaller in general compared to my nur-spec. if the price was decent and i could hear a sound clip of one on a modded SR, i might want to switch. just depends on the overall price i guess.

Have not seen a system I like so I just had a 3 inch system built with Magnaflow high flow cat and muffler with dual stainless tips, installed with tax $410 out the door. Love it. Not mandrel bent, aluminized pipe and muffler. Looks great, sounds and performs very well. Pacific Muffler, Stockton, Ca. - Thanks guys great work.

yeah, ive seen a similar setup locally on someone's RHD sil80. It was hella loud though. I guess he didnt have a muffler.

Wow $410? thats expensive.

See you guys? Even if you try to build your own, its gonna cost more than $400.
For $500, its already a GREAT deal.

Now whos interested?

It is funny you titled your post "exhaust system ripoffs," then described a crush-bent system that you paid over $400.00 for.
In this case, YOU are the one who got ripped off.

No cat, no installation, just a muffler and some pipe for $500 - Probably will cost a $100 to have it installed. Maybe I'm missing something here? Good luck hope you sell alot of your systems.

For a mandrel bent system made of stainless and not muffler shop mild steel?
And why on earth would someone need "installation" for a bolt-on exhaust system?
Including a cat (or test pipe), welding and all that goodness, $410 for a custom exhaust is a ripoff.
I will thank you to stop shitting on this man's thread now.

I am not asking.

410 for a "custom" exhaust shop special is complete garbage... shouldn't pay more than 200 including the price of a muffler and new flex pipe... this exhaust is well worth 500 if you're serious and wanting good stuff. I'm out of the S chassis game for a while though.

Id rock it for sure. Sounds nice on the KA. I did a crazy search on Japanese search engines, Australian search engines and UK search engines cuz US sites kept giving me the same links. There isn't much information listed. Just a couple people who have them on their cars but no vids or pics installed on an s13. There a couple vids including the one on the KA. I found a skyline and a hachi.

The skyline vid is cool though.. Nice and angry barry white sounding lol well if he tried to sound hi pitched lol

The Trust DD sounds more throaty than the Apex dual N1 imo

^^^^
This is all rms had to say about it. I think its a bad Japanese to English translation:
"
Substantial improvement of exhaust efficiency 90 phi, the large aperture pipe 102 phi dual conversion, it guarantees exhaust flows. In addition, it corresponds to the sport scene of circuit travelling and drift travelling etc., the silencer with the tail guarantees the road clearance of arrangement and the machine rear section to the center section immediately after the catalyst.
::It guarantees the roadspace (90mm) of safety standards
::The silencer to the tail pipe - by installing, it guarantees safety standards (below approach noise 103db)
::Tail silencer"

Not sure what "phi" means.

From what I could see even for used Trust DD the prices were between $680 to $550 so to get it on here brand new in a box for $500 is pretty good. Maybe if it was around $450 more people would want to purchase? I dunno Not all Zilvians are low ballers and cheapies. Quality versus low cost. You get what you pay for.

i think if you first offered the exhaust priced at $600. everyone would lowball you and offer $500. thats when you say that you have to work it out with trust.. and with a couple days of making them wait.. you can say you worked out a deal and got $500, but need xx amount of orders.. thats when everyone will begging at your feet to let them in on it... hahaha.. just a thought

Did you start a group buy? Maybe you could get together enough people that way. So you have people confirmed and committed to actually following through. Also, do the s14 DD... I want!

Why dont you start up a list of people who are seriously interested?

Have like 3 sections in the list like :serious, maybe, and people who would get it for a lower price. How many do you need in order to get them produced? Not like im going to get it, im just throwing the idea out there.

Even with the people on the list, half are going to be flakers.
