Surveillance Camera Captures Man vs. Train Game of Chicken
Monday , December 10, 2007
File this under "What Was I Thinking?"
Andrew Ogden, a 21-year-old from Chorley, England, just couldn't resist showing off for his friends as they approached the Astley Village train crossing.
As a Northern Rail commuter train from Manchester Airport to Blackpool sped down the tracks last July, Ogden stopped and defiantly challenged it to a potentially deadly game of chicken.
The dangerous near-miss was captured on CCTV cameras.
"This was a shocking case of somebody blatantly showing off to their friends which could so easily have ended in tragedy. He was inches away from being struck by a train traveling at 50mph," said Superintendent Peter Holden of British Transport Police.
