as far i as i know u just have to put oil in it sooner, and thats it. oh and rebuild it about every 60,000 miles.

hell of a car though.

hell of a car but they are tempramental as shit! Theres an old tuning saying about the rotary motor saying (it only knocks once!) They run way hot compared to a piston motor and to get work done on one is expensive as shit being their is a lack of rotary based shops. i so badly want a fd3s but i dont know if im ready for headaches and wallet aches that they bring!

haha i hear ya man, im acually picking up my first rotary car tomorrow afternoon :) its a 93 rx7. pretty nice acually. mine wont be driven everyday, but it will be driven with a bad seal on the turbo. leaks/burns alil oil. only for 2 hours though to get it back here... then itll sit until i get my license back :( im stoked about getting it to work on though.

They aren't as complicated as piston engines so if you take the time to learn what you're working with, whats typical of them and how to fix it you'll never be dissapointed in your fc/fd. Hence why my fc > s14

If the apex seals are gone, it probably does start but runs/idles rough and you should never run it like that casue you run the risk of further damagine the rotor housings which are $900+ from Mazda. It's not hard to tear down a rotary engine just time consuming and the hardest part about a rebuild is cleaning everything up.
Hope that helps!

Rotaries are very reliable if you know what you are doing and pay attention.

Rotaries are very reliable if you know what you are doing and pay attention.

and if necessary, you can rebuilt them in your living room on a milk crate and some news paper

The motor is blown?

You can get a new long block from Mazda (reman) for $2800. That is what I would do.

Depending on how it blew you can sometimes determine if the housings are gone. If it was an overheating issue most likely they are ok. If a seal breaks (happens when timing is off and a spark plug fires on a seal) the piece of the apex seal will impail itself in the housing. Damage is done within the first few seconds of this happening (sometimes it will get to the turbos too) You can drive a rotary on one rotor. I can tell you that an FD can drive over 100mph with a blown engine. Impressive :)

I have a 94 Mazda RX-7 and It has been my daily driver. It has almost 90k miles on it. (84k on the first motor. It was running strong but I decided to have it rebuilt anyways.) You should get 90k out of a motor if you know how to treat them. (and you are not running ridiculous mods/boost) It is a different animal. It is hard to find rotary shops let alone rotary shops that actually know what they are doing! I may start working with Speedmachine of SoCal. They have been the ONLY mechanics to ever touch my FD and it will forever stay that way. If there is anyone is SoCal looking for a custom built FD or other rotary work (done right!) let me know!

They built the Falken tire rotary drift cars (I WANT!)

And here is my car. Sorry I talk so much. I am a chic who really digs my FD and loves to talk about it and other rotaries. I don't believe there is another car that compares.

If anyone has anymore questions feel free to ask.
