Just got a JIC 3" muffler for cheap but I've never seen anyone run one before... looked them up on the site and they get $360 for them.
Now when I was originally piecing together my exhaust I wanted to use a 2.5" Borla turbo muffler because I wanted the hot gases to vent quicker and I didn't think I'd need anything bigger.
Does anyone have any experience with either of these? It looks like a quality muffler but for one, I dont know if I'll be able to find 80mm piping or if 3" piping will mate up decently since they're slightly less than 4mm off and secondly it feels pretty heavy, anyone know how much a standard muffler should weigh?

Have you heard a Subie with a Borla? Probably one of the best sounding mufflers I've heard, although this JIC looks to be a similar oval muffler straight thru design

Jock: "This beast's got 500hp and a Borla exhaust system...it does 0-60 in about 4.3 seconds?"
Whenever I hear Borla, it reminds me of this quote from Tokyo Drift.
Just because "I've never seen anyone run one before" doesn't mean you can't. You should just weld up some piping and make the JIC work.
...oh, and the boxer rumble just can't be beat.

Why dont you just get a whole exhaust instead of just a muffler. This reason would be why people dont run them. Why spend that much just for a muffler? Get a whole damn exhaust and be done with it.

Not many options I could pull off in MA for exhaust... fart cans get pulled over daily where I live(no modified exhausts allowed) and the only full exhaust I would buy for my car is discontinued and overpriced... rsr exmag. The JIC is nice because it isn't stamped with anything and it has stock looking mounting brackets but the Borla is a smaller tip which doesnt put up any red flags

What do you guys have agianst Borla other then nice mustangs use them? If you make a nice exhaust for one thing, How can you make "shitty" exhaust for another? Its exhaust its not rocket science Borla has some of the best exhaust on the market, just because a mustang has a borla that just means he made the right choice over flowmaster. Go ride in a car with a Borla exhaust mustang, subie, evo and a s2k ive been in with Borla and they where very quite and throaty sounded like pure sex on wheels. Only "JDM" exhaust companys that compare side by side in quality cost atleast $800 and dont even sound as good.

I love all the hate.
Borla makes great exhaust systems and they have for decades. Used to be, before the JDM campaign, that's all you could get. They've made systems for virtually every Nissan car/truck, all high quality with OE fit and look. I wouldn't knock anything they make. The sound is also the most unique out there and has been, that's one of the company's known traits.
However, last time I checked they did not offer an S14 system, so just purchasing a universal muffler is your only option there. In that case you can pick up virtually any design and style for less than $50 on Ebay, in any material almost. Have a pipe welded up with your own choice of resonator installed if you're worried about attention. That beats the hell out of paying up to $400 for a name when you're only using a small part of the entire system. Otherwise, buy a full SSA exhaust for $220 and weld a resonator inline somewhere and add a silencer, you're still under $300 for a complete 3" system that's quiet and unobtrusive.

IDK what engine you are running but if it's turbocharged then get 3". N/A go 2.5". Borla makes quality products. I had one on my old GTi and it gave a great sound. It doesnt matter what kind of car you have a muffler is a muffler, and Borla makes quality ones. If i was running a muffler it would probably be Borla lol...

Word, dude.
Believe or not, plenty of domestic guys run awesome accessories and equipment on their vehicles. On the same note, not all JDM shit is great.
If it works, it works, regardless of country of origin.
And besides, in the end, it's going on YOUR car, not anyone elses. So if you like it, that's all that matters.
