hey im looking at getting a 240
and the guy is selling it for a grand
the only problem he said it had was a vacuum leak
and it caused it to have a low idle
can anyone tell me about how much that is to fix
also there is no rust and the body is nice
a few cracks in the dash and i need 1 new drives side door panel
i drove it today and it shifts smooth and drives nice
other then the low idle and it idleing a little ruff
anyone think this is a good deal?
oh also its a 93 with 100xxx something miles on body but only like 68k on rebuild motor

You may need to go over all the vacuum hoses and make sure there's no leak. Who did the engine swap? Most likely if he did it himself he won't know how to reconnect things correctly unless he is experienced.
My suggestion is to get an FSM and try to trace down all the vacuum lines to see if they're al there. It should be only a few bucks to replace vacuum lines if you do it yourself.
If you have serious problems with the motor though, it will obviously cost more.
I speculate that he needs to clean out the TB and all the emissions stuff. If any of that stuff get clogged up with dirt your idle will fluctuate.
A good way to clean them up is with BG services. www.bgfindashop.com. Don't buy it until he fixes the idle problem, or maybe you can negotiate the price for just the shell.

Have someone that knows their shit to go with you and inspect the car. It could be as simple as a vacuum leak or could be number of other things. I'd say 1K for a rust free, good condition, and running car is worth the risk though.
g6civcx - www.zeroyon.com's links to most FSM's are broken.

for 1grand? buy it. then go thru and replace every vacuum line you find. rubber hoses deteriorate alot more than people expect. but the easiest way to find a vacuum leak (provided its not a tiny one) is with the engine running, spray carb spray over all of the vacuum lines and intake tubing. if your idle increases, you've found where your leak is. any leak after the maf is going to affect your idle as well as your fuel control. but for the price i'd swoop on it asap.

how can you confirm the engine is rebuilt?
it's very easy to replace a head gasket and say the engine is rebuilt. be careful.
also, definitely do a compression test my friend. ANY time you look at a used car do a compression test. it's very simple to do, and if the seller isn't trying to hide anything, they will be fine with an unobtrusive test such as a compression test.
also, keep in mind there are hookers more expensive than the car you are about to buy, be happy the damn thing even runs and drives as well as you say it does.
even if the compression test fails, just get it, a grand is a great deal.

break him down lower. there might also be more problems like bad injectors or so. my old motor was ruff at idle and it turned out being 2 bad injectors. take it to a shop or a mechanic you know and have them look at it if your really interested in the car.

hey just be careful if you search for vaccum leaks on your own. Using carb cleaner and stuff is the easy way to do it but it is flamable as well, so use it ever so lightly on your lines. If it gets to hot then it will ignite. Im with everyone else on the car tho. But it if it is only a grand. Thats still a deal.
