Hi.
I have an 1989 and I'm swapping from CA18DET to SR20DET. Right now I have my engine set and it has an T28 on it.
I wanted to get out the most of my T28 and possibly changing to an GT28RS in the future.I want a reliable engine because it is my daily driver.
So here the mods I will put.
FMIC
Full exhaust(except dump pipe)
Walbro 255lph
Fuel regulator
clutch(maybe exedy stage2)
injectors
N62 maf
ECU Tune
t28(looking for 14psi approx)
RAS
My questions are:
-Do I really need an metal headgasket
-why is almost everyone using 550cc injectors when 650cc are almost the same price.
-Should I really use RAS
-what regulator should I use(I was thinking about the Nismo one)
-Are DeatschWerks Injectors good?
-I will only get my ECU shipped. Is the safc2(for exemple) an obligation?

yes....but instead you'll need an emanage, aem ems, megasquirt etc.... safc2's aren't the only tuning devices out there, but you will want a tune
i'm confuzzled

You mean you're getting it reflashed? Like a rom tune? In that case, you can toss the SAFC in the trash where it belongs.
I've heard mixed things about RAS, it's on here somewhere, look for it.
Deatchewerks injectors are decent, but I know a few people who blew their motors when the injectors got stuck open.
People get 550's because they're more common ( a lot of different companies make them), and don't really need 650's. 550's is usually enough for most of us.

I wouldn't be so quick about ditching the afc, rom tunes aren't always perfect

thanx for the good reply. And yes I meant a ROM tune. I want to get 650cc for any future upgrade. The biggest turbo I will ever put on this car is an gt28rs.Should I get 550cc or 650cc.
Where is the formula for for injectors size and engine output.
Alot of persons are telling me to put an aftermarket headgasket. Is this a must?

Hey sr20detconv,
If you want good set of injectors then stick with quality parts, such as: Tomei/Nismo, Sard, HKS/Denso etc... Last thing you want is a freaking injector failing or getting stuck and ka-boom, engine go bye bye... I have a set of HKS 555 injectors on mine, good enough for 330~350whp if that...
Also if you want full control of your car get standalone, ie, Power FC, HKS F-Con V Pro and many other standalones (yes it will cost more but better in the long run) won't limit you in the future when changing to different turbo's or injectors, cams etc...
Alot of guys on here including me have gone with metal head gaskets when changing cams/valve springs, or even re-building the bottom end etc.., some haven't and claim to boost the crap out of their stock SR (and i'm talking in the 20psi+ range), to me thats a ticking bomb ready to go ka-boom. If you want something reliable then build it right. If you're not going over the 300whp number then stock head gasket should be fine, keep an eye on boost. Others on here have done more with stock head gasket. Everyone has their own opinions.
I don't have anything fancy on my SR I just want reliablity, check the url below:
http://www.zilvia.net/f/showthread.php?t=161908
Even ask Statik, I believe he has a GT28RS pushing out 330whp with enthalpy tune (good stuff).

You want reliable, do it right, Power FC tuned right. Its steep initially but it will save your ass in the long run. Injectors, pretty hit it on the dot, 550s are alot more common that 600-700cc injectors. Next common sizing for SRs after the 550s are the nismo/tomei 740s. Personally, get the 740s since your planning on going for a bigger turbo. You can never have too much fuel, as long as its tuned right. Headgasket, its one of those things that you cant tell how old the one thats in the engine till it blows, change it for a metal one for the peace of mind. Quality = Apex'i metal HG. Rocker Arm Stoppers is a must. Stock head is pretty trippy in a way that if you misshift at high RPM, your engine could impress you with its disappearing valve trick.

people get 550cc because most of them are running safc.... if you get 650cc you must get a stand alone, Emanage, or a rom tune.
anything over 550cc on a sr20det is out of the safc efficiency range

My questions are:
-Do I really need an metal headgasket Metal Head Gaskets are normally installed wrong so don't use it unless your going for 20-30 psi of boost all the fucking time.
-why is almost everyone using 550cc injectors when 650cc are almost the same price. I dont know Maybe because the AFC won't control more than that size on ratio
-Should I really use RAS If you want to bounce off the rev limiter yes
-what regulator should I use(I was thinking about the Nismo one)
-Are DeatschWerks Injectors good? Eh
-I will only get my ECU shipped. Is the safc2(for exemple) an obligation?Contact www.rs-enthalpy.com immediately

I'm on a student budget. I don't want to throw money where it is not necesary.I will stay with my OEM hg because I heard it's a pain in the a$$ to change the hg.
I want to know more about the destchwerk injectors because their is a sale at the moment on zilvia.
The block will remain stock. The engine had 165psi all around so I think it's in good shape.

ah 555cc injectors are plenty especially since you will most likely blow the headgasket if you need anything bigger than those... but you will not need the headgasket if your only running a t28.. also if your only going to run 14psi on a t28 you wont need most of what you listed if you are really on a budget...

what will I not need?Will a gt28rs max out the 550cc's?
I will put the RAS for peace of mind because I will drift my car.
I don't have the MAF on my engine so I will put a N62 for future mods. I'm on a tight budget but I don't want to spend the money on mafs 2 time or injectors.
Can someone give me feedback on the detshwerk injectors?

If you are really on a budget then stick with the stock injectors and only run 14 psi... untill you can afford some higher quality injectors....

here is what you need to get the numbers you are shooting for:
this pull was on 18psi
completely stock redtop sr
gt2871r .64ar
sard 550cc
n62 maf
91 octane mixed with 5gals of 100 (full tank of gas)
CGTuning ECU (tuner here in Arizona)
fmic
3" straight pipe
AFR were around 11.5 under boost
now for the dyno charts!

the stuttering at the top is the clutch slipping. shitty clutch for the HP he has haha

nice to see that 550cc is enough for 330whp. I thought I needed bigger than 550cc to reach that power.
Still need info on that deastchwerk injectors. Might buy them soon.

eh, you won't make much without cams even with that turbo, stock cams need to go around 300+, id be surprised if you actually hit 330 with that setup
