TOKYO (AP) - Yahoo Japan Corp. and eBay Inc. (EBAY) (EBAY) said Tuesday they have agreed to team up in online auctions, planning services for next year that will make it easier for consumers to buy things via the Internet from the U.S. and Japan.

Yahoo said by March, Japanese will be able to bid for items up for sale on eBay through the Yahoo auction site in Japan. By the middle of next year, similarly, a site will be set up that will allow Americans to buy Yahoo Japan auction items through the eBay site.

The deal will facilitate "cross-border trading" and invigorate the online auction market, Yahoo said in a statement. In online auctions, consumers put up items they want to sell and get offers through the Internet from prospective buyers.

Americans using eBay will be able to more easily buy Japanese goods popular abroad, such as "manga" comic books, CDs, and products that feature Japanese animation characters and other mascots, it said.

Also, some products are cheaper online abroad than in Japan, and consumers will be able to compare prices for the best deals.

News of the agreement, initially reported in the business daily The Nikkei, sent shares of Yahoo Japan climbing Tuesday morning. By midday, the stock was up 3.9 percent at 56,040 yen ($509).

Yahoo Japan, a unit of Sunnyvale, Calif.-based Yahoo Inc. (YHOO) (YHOO), has more than 15 million auction items listed on any given day, while eBay, based in San Jose, Calif., the world's biggest online auction site, boasts 248 million registered users.

The online auction markets in both countries are growing, Yahoo said. In Japan, it's up about 27 percent from a year ago to an estimated 4 trillion yen ($36.4 billion), and in the U.S., it's up 21 percent to more than 19 trillion yen ($172.7 billion).

Although Japanese already can shop online on overseas sites, and vice versa, the agreement will make it easier by bridging language and other barriers.

Macquarie analyst Nathan Ramler said the deal is positive for both sides.

"Now there is going to be a formal channel by which you can sell products from one market into another," he told Dow Jones Newswires.

The tie-up may be expanded, both sides said.

Lorrie Norrington, head of eBay's international operations, said the deal may be expanded in the future to other businesses. Besides the online auction, eBay owns the PayPal online payment service and Skype, an online telephone service.

Yahoo Japan President Masahiro Inoue said the companies may pursue a capital tie-up, although Tuesday's deal doesn't involve such mutual investments.

WIN.

Well the catch is, shipping will still be expensive as fuck!!!

OptionZero
12-04-2007, 04:08 AM
well
you'd still have to find a seller willing to ship internationally

and until that becomes cheap for individuals (without military or other hookups on containers or whatever)...all this saves is any fees charged by Rinkya or other bidding services

we aren't gonna get jdm stuff cheaply quite yet

I dont think we would run out of business in the near future. When 99% of the sellers dont speak a single sentence of English, its almost impossible to conclude the transactions. You would still need Grant and other bidding service agents. The biggest problem is usually the shipping costs and if you can get around that, you would be making lots of $$. So far, the only ones who can get around this are those who ship in container loads.

hey maybe yahoo itself is going to do the shipping in containers, so the sellers only have to ship locally.

Wicked idea, it'll be awesome for small off-the-shelf stuff.

I don't think it would be very simple when it comes to things like aero and wheels though. But who knows?

^^And we are supposed to be mad that now that Origin distributors can't charge us $900 some odd dollars plus shipping for a body kit that only costs $600 in japan? I don't have rare japanese parts on my car, due to the fact it's a track car so this means nothing to me. The only thing I could really use from JP are good fitting wheels and seats.

It will be awesome, until you realize the shipping cost involved...IF the seller is willing to ship internationally. I know someone that just had a hood shipped to the US via a seller on YAJ, and the hood alone was about $300 to ship.

Cheaper than paying somebody who's just buying the wheels and putting em in their closet till someone pays and ships em out.

Hahha you wont have to. I bet maybe 2 people on there will be down to ship stuff. I mean you can probably buy other stuff but car stuff I bet none of them would be willing to ship to the us. People that post stuff on yahoo jp post it on there and not ebay for a reason. Ive been buyin stuff of there for a while and not once have I seen anyone willing to ship to the us or even a further part of japan. If there were down to ship to the us it would be cool. But the cost for shipping will be nuts. This is only good if you are buying little stuff or stickers or something ahha

Body kits are not heavy.

Not heavy at all but its not really by weight its by dimension. long ass box means more money. Oversized 3. Step your shipping game up

I dont think its going to make much of a difference.
The people who are getting parts from japan will continue to the other's wont.
I don't know how many pm's i've got from people saying they have cash in hand for some part only for me to bid on it and them back out and me have parts that i dont want/need/have a hard time flipping. I'm the idiot though thats why I only help reputable members on here.

end rant

(you can still pm me... if i have time i'll probably help if not oh well)
