hey everyone. have a s13 with a sr20det. total noob to all of it, what should i get to tune my car? the timing is off some because it smokes every now and again and will run like 1-2seconds after turning it off. will a SAFC fix this? or do i need to get a EMS of some sort? future plans no more than 350-400 WHP tops.

no safc does not control timing, go with a ems.

With more than 350hp power goal, dont do SAFC. SAFC alone wont get you there. You will need a rom tune and a SAFC to do so, save the money and get a better setup like AEM or PFC.

What color smoke? Could be a sign of your turbo about to blow...

This sounds like your timing is off?

Turbo, check for shaft play.

im not picking up ur sarcasm? timing was off on one of my other trucks and would cause it to run a few seconds after i turned it off, adj timing and fixed it, so yeah thats why i would assume that.

edit; i have to pull the whole turbo off to check for shaft play? or there a simple easy way?
also what kind of EMS u guys suggest?

power fc is always nice, or aem but enthalpy would be more than enough or JWT for you...remove rubber intake hose and 2 bolt elbow from compressor, do not need to remove the turbo. Once you have done that you can use 2 fingers to grab the center shaft and give it a wiggle...note: if you can make blade hit compressor...BAD

Yah just play with the shaft. Around is okay as long as its not enough to touch the housing. Also if you can pull the shaft in and out, thats also bad.

i looked up power fc and its 991 for just the unit. but on the rx7 forum they have the unit and the lil keypad thing for the same 991 price but on the other site its like $300 more for the keypad.

looked up greddy emanage and it seems pretty awesome and alotttt cheaper. still need to decide.

PFC = stand alone
Emanage = Piggyback

stand alone > Piggyback
