Hi guys..
Im new to this forum. I'm working on a s14 base bone stock as of now. When i purchased the car the head gasket was blown so I replaced it and so on. A few days ago I attempted to fire it and all it will do is turnover and then "backfire" or shoot flames from the intake manifold. If anyone has experienced this and could give me a few words of advice it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

well, your timing IS off. i would personally not take the chance with doing it yourself if you dont know how to do it. Bent valves suck, trust me. Tow it to a shop. They wont charge too much to do it i dont think. But if you insist, go get a chiltons. pictures help.

If the motor has never ran since the timing has been out does that mean I could'nt have bent any valves yet ?

wait what? Im sorry, im not trying to sound like an ass, but i didnt understand that very well. You can bend valves if the timing is off bad, and the piston hits TDC when a valve is open.

Uh oh..

If any damage has been done.. well then it's done. Was your distributor installed correctly at tdc and set to 15deg btd?

if the valves are bent...

its a good excuse to get an SR swapped in... otherwise, ka heads are pretty easy to find.

wait... are ka's interference motors? i believe they are

if it jumped or what not coulda busted the valve. i'd leak down test it. and if it gets stuck trying to leak down (turn to TDC) you have major problems. but leak down will tell you what's blown/broken etc.

i have another ka head if ya need.
