What's up everyone? I'm kind of new here, so let me introduce myself. My names Randy and have just recently finished my rb20 -> 89 Hatch swap. I could care less about how the car looks as long as it runs well. I don't plan on getting crazy with horsepower numbers, so I think the stock rb20 turbo at around 14psi would do the trick. Since they come with tiny 270cc injectors and a terrible tune from the factory, I have looked into upgrading my injectors so I don't max out my duty cycle and investing in some kind of piggy back setup to up the boost and tune accordingly. I'm very basic with electrical and wiring, but im sure it's all the same if you have a diagram sitting there.
so here's my point, what is everyone running as far as tuning goes? Lot's of people hate/swear by their specific program.
I can either run safc, ems, emanage or invest in some kind of chiptuning. I'm a noob and would like all your information specifically how/complexity each is to tune.
Thanks!

It really comes down to how much you want to spend and what your goals are. Since your not shooting for huge numbers the ems or even emanage may be overkill. Im not sure what rom tune options are out there, but make sure you have your setup finalized before that or youll be tossing away money on re-tunes.

SAFC easiest to work with.

I mostly just need something to compensate for larger injectors and a z32 maf swap. Seems like most guys are running the safc to do just that. But I was readying a post after SEARCHING (cheers and whistles), and read that with the safc, my wot timing advance would be way off?

yes because the safc only controls fuel and does not compensate for timing, i'd either go with a power fc if you want a very nice setup, but using the safc isn't the most reliable form of tuning and i'd only reccomend it if you have a rom or chip tune and you just need to make minor adjustments to your a/f ratios

enthalpy rom tune ecu, AEM wideband and safc(so you can vent your BOV)

Sorry bud, your shiets out of luck...you dont have a whole lot of tuning options when it comes to RB20s. Power FC honestly is the only shiet I would throw onto an RB20, but the catch is finding them. SAFC will do the trick but SAFC will only tune injectors up to 50% on top of your stock size, so 270cc +50% of that are only 400cc roughly. Rom tuning is gonna hit or miss, I havent heard a whole lot of legit rom tunes in the states for RB20s, and im almost positive Enthalpy doesnt do RB20s.
:werd: SAFC and wide band or look on an aussie board for someone with a ROM tune with your injectors.Maybe their are some US based forums for RB's you could check there. Being a former RB guy the best forums in English are Aussie. If you don't plan to go big or have noone to tune a PFC DO NOT BUY ONE. It would be a waste on more in that case.

Thanks for all the feedback. I have access to a tuner who lives 20 minutes from me and has a ton of experience with the rb series engines. He has an emulator setup and knows what he is doing!
