is drifting in a car very difficult??

the only experience I have drifting (if you could even call it that) is sliding my 4x4 F-150 around parking lots at night. &nbsp;<img src="#/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/blush.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':blush:'>

oh yeah, and my friends cavilier...but of course it's a fwd and the handbrake is the only means of making the rear wheels loose traction. damn I want an s13 coupe! &nbsp;<img src="#/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'>

Am I the only one that cringes at the thought of drifting? &nbsp;Drifting seems to be really really hard on a cars suspension, i like my car to much &nbsp;<img src="#/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cry.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':cry:'>

you're not the only one ca18guy. &nbsp;I don't reall ylike the idea of drifintg...its very impractical and I would only do it often if I had a spare car that I didn't care about. &nbsp;I'm a fan of 'grip driving' or whatever you want to call it...its the fastest way around a race track and MUCH more predictable. &nbsp;But drifting is fun.

i wouldn't say that grip driving is the fastest way around the track. &nbsp;in most racing the car's are already past the g load the tires can handle and they normally slightly drift. &nbsp;the big show drifts are slower, and just for show though so they can't really be compared. &nbsp;there are competitions with things like drifting with 1 hand out the window or whatever, show drifting isn't practical but it takes skill.

learning to properly drift does take a fair amount of skill, and is hard on the car when you mess up. &nbsp;and most people like atleast a real firm rear setup (afaik) to help the back come around. &nbsp;i don't think it should be too much harder on you'r suspension than any other limit driving, unless of course you screw up.

I am aware that drifting isn't the best thing for your car's drivetrain or tires, but it looks soooo friggin fun!

and yeah, getting a huge drift going won't get you first place in a race, but drifting is more of a freestyle event anyway. Also, I'm kinda supprised at the general negative attitude towards drifting. &nbsp;I mean, 240sx's are supposed to be one of top drift-capable cars out there. but grip is cool too, whatever floats your boat I guess.

As far as it being hard on tires and drivetrain, yes it is. &nbsp;However, I consider it my personal duty to find every flaw in every car I drive by driving it to the limits every single day. &nbsp;If something breaks, it needed replacing anyway. &nbsp;<img src="#/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

Usually I do drifting on the dirt because it's much easier on the vehicle since dirt doesn't offer much grip factor. &nbsp;And around a dirt track, it's the ONLY way to get around quick. &nbsp;Or forest road or whatever you happen to have. &nbsp;Hehehehe. &nbsp;Vroom vroooom!

To be able to drift well, yes, it is difficult. To be able to gain control of a car which lost traction in a manner that is both showy and displays a fair amount of speed isn't an easy thing to do.

Yes - I like to drift...it's fun. (when it's on the track).

what about in rally.. when they do those tight 180 degree turn in mud or swow.... they drift there.. and i think its faster than keeping 100% traction and doing it

Dirt driving and pavement driving are very different. Yes, grip is slower on a dirt track, but most people don't really use their 240's as rally cars.

Drifting is a lot of fun and takes a lot of skill, just keep in on the track. Curb humping isn't fun.
