you're kidding right? There's plenty of options. such as z32 manual. Xcessive makes a kit for it. Not to mention all the aftermarket gearset (os giken, ppg, etc.) but they are not cheap. The stock trans is already pretty stout as it is, it can handle some power. get hard on it though it can give you some problems.

thanks. does the z32 kit use an adapter plate? what is the most cost effective way to do it? gearset or different trans? It needs to hold up to hundreds of clutch kicks cause i plan on drifting the shit out off her.

Either way, it's hard to go wrong. The cheapest is probably the z32 trans swap. If you want to keep the stock gearing as close as possible, that's probably your best bet. I would think the only downside to it is the size of trans, it would be a tighter fit. Here's that adaptor kit: http://www.xcessivemanufacturing.com/merchant.ihtml?pid=22&step=4

Just keep your stock tranny. It'll handle what you want. Just fine. Spent your money on a good clutch.
Edit: IMO ^^^

Sure buddy. Leave the advice giving to people who actually know what they are talking about.
Z32 trans is cool because it's strong but the shifter feels like ass. I was talking to brian from ma-motorsports about it and he says he got used to the way the shifter feels after driving with it for a while. I think he actually likes it now. It is the most cost effective way to have a stronger tranny in our cars. Another guy I know had an OS gearset installed in his tranny but that is $$$$. He sold it to Ryan Tuerck and he ended up breaking that tranny during this year's FD season if I remember correctly. I believe mazworx also has a Z33 tranny conversion now but you might wanna get a 3.6 FD to go with it which is more money. The Z33 shifter feels pretty nice though so it might be worth it. If you did stick with the stock 4.08 FD you could probably get away with it if you built your motor to rev to 9K but that would be mad money with a KA.

Sorry I didn't mean as advice. ^^
Also never said don't get Z32 tranny. But moving on. ^^ He could also get a Q45 diff for a different FD. Eh I dunno.

stock tranny is fine..
if you a drag racing and slick down.. you might want to upgrade to the z32 with that much hp

I have heard that the stock trans can handle somewhere in the neighborhood of 400hp no problem. I would just give it a really good rebuild and run it, if it breaks then you need to find another solution. By "really good rebuild" I don't mean send it to some random trans shop either. Do it yourself, get a FSM, and set ALL the clearences EXACTLY to factory spec (most trans shops won't take the time to shim all the clearences properly). Also replace all the synchros as well, this is another thing that most shops overlook unless there is an obvious problem. If it breaks then I would go either z-32 or a full race dogbox like the SCCA GT2 and GT3 guys use, however the latter will be quite expensive so prob z-32.

If you gonna rape on your car all the time get a Z32 tranny. 400hp ka-t on a stock tranny + raping car a lot = blown tranny. Its as simple as that.

What about a proper tranny rebuild, along with cryo-treating the gears?
Just a thought...

rebuild and cryo treat ka trans...might as well just buy the adapter and a 94+ TT z32 trans, at least you know it WONT bust. plus you get dual syncros on 1st-4th

thanks for all the advice. sounds like i should go z32. how does shifter location in the floor come into play tho? does that tranny fit in my tunnel with no mods or do i have to cut it up?

all the info on teh z32 swap is on maxworks site. i think it bolts up (of course with the adaptor plate) with minimal modifications. its not like your gona have to cut a new opening for the shifter or anything extreme like that.

I have a KA-T i beat the shit out of my car. its ~400whp. I have yet to have a problem with my tranny. besides a synchro that was going out when i got the car. I use pensiol syncromesh for fluid.
I have some crazy stuff that has been in my head about trannys. I will release this info once i know if it works and what not.
