a frined of mine is swaping a fully stock s14 sr20det black top motor in his 97 240sx. he has no intention of fully building the motor but he would like to have a light tune sr20det that is reliable for daily driver and just enough power to have fun. hes thinking of the normal stuff like fmic, bov, radiator, intake, injectors, z32 pistons, street cams, tuned, stage 1 clutch and the top and bottom end, stock t28, porting would be rebuilt stock otherwise. would that be a good setup to run on street/track? what hp/tq would i be pushing? is there anything else thats simple to add power? and yes i already searched for my friend. thanks

what power are you looking to make? to get 300 horses you don't need even half of that, cams+fmic+intake+full 3inch exhaust(including high flow cat)+injectors+turbo and a decent tune will probably get you to 350-ish with stock everything else

plus most of what you're saying will be pretty expensive if all you want is a daily, you don't need to touch the bottom end unless you're going 400+, which as far as I'm concerned is not practical for a daily driver.

as far as things after that then intake and exhaust manifolds and definitely a bigger throttle body (that stock one is tiny as hell) and maybe a slightly bigger turbo will definitely get you 400+(depending on turbo and tune)

EDIT: don't forget the stock maf isn't good for much past 300hp, go z32 or q45

you can get damn close to 300 with injectors and a rom tunefmic exhaust

I see why you already have red squares. These kind of questions have been asked a million times and they are always entertaining. You or your friend shouldn't be building cars if you just want to throw cooling sounding/looking shit but don't know anything about it.

my friend and i are honda fans and just trying something new to us. i would rather go with experienced advice rather then experimenting.

350ish hp sounds good, thanks for the advice and the constructive critisisim

and doesn't using z32 pistons require you over bore the cylinders or something?

^a reputable shop for things like that are hard to find

p.s. just drop a stock engine in with some new gaskets and believe me you will notice a huge difference from stock, power is overrated

I'm not telling you to experiment, I'm telling you to search. If you are keeping the stock T28 it doesn't matter what you do to the engine after a certain point cause the turbo won't be able to handle it. What I'm getting at is there's plenty of people on here with s14 sr's that have done write ups, you just need to do some reading up on here and you'll answer a lot of your questions and then some.

it sounds like he is trying to do a lot for a daily driver.
all he needs to do is
intake
full exhaust no cats
up the boost a little
clutch
and a programed ecu to run for more air fuel and higher boost

that should be plenty of power for him
no need to do all the other work for a daily driver with all that other crap
granted it wont hurt but no need

with just these mods he should at least gain about 100 horsepower
