View Full Version : My Hatchback Tail Lights

Alright. I've been getting a lot of comments about my tail lights. So I've decided if the demand is there, I will make a few more sets to sell. These take me awhile to make because I am a perfectionist and everything has to look right.
Here's some pictures for those of you who don't know what I'm talking about...

http://tehl33tsite.com/240sxdd/11-12-07_1742.jpg
The procedure is quite simple. All I do is take the amber piece out of the stock tail light and fit in an equivalent clear florescent lighting cover piece. The pattern that I use is extremely close to the amber pattern of the stock tail lights so it doesn't look out of place at all. I've seen many attempts at tail lights like these but the major flaw in them is the pattern used. Then I use black weather resistant silicone on the inner border, and clear silicone on the outer edge to finish the deal. I've been using mine for about 6 months and absolutely no leaking and they work great.
So now I ask zilvia, who would want some of these if I decide to make them in bulk?

I haven't decided yet. I'll formulate a price once I make another set. The ones I have on my car now took me two days, but that was because my dremel died after 30 minutes of use, and took 4 hours to recharge.
edit: i promise itll be under $200 shipped to any location :naughtyd:
i will only use mint conditioned OEM tail lights, so they will be like new (no scratches or scuffs) and will include the bulbs!

They look sweet.
Don't know if i'd be ready to spend that money on them ( yes, I'm cheap ) as I'd rather pick up a set of cheap tails and do it myself. I'm sure they wouldn't turn out as nice, but its a compromise I can live with.
That being said, good luck :)

no, remember they permanently banned me for making a thread about wanting to visit the country "Nigeria" in the off topic chat just because it was *close* to the N word.
And I would rather use my own set of tail lights incase I fuck something up that way I won't have to reimburse anybody if anything were to happen.
If you have any *PERFECT CONDITIONED TAIL LIGHTS* that you would like to SELL to me, email me at
[email protected] (my PM box is getting full) with your price shipped to 32828.
Thanks all!

I'm in for a set and I have cash :) Clearcorners.com used to make and sell these but he stopped unless you want to pay for led lights as well which is way more than I want to spend for my piece of crap car.
Anyways, get better pictures ASAP. The first picture makes them look kinda iffy. As far as demand goes. I'm sure there is more than enough for one person to handle. A lot of people don't like the look of kouki tails, don't want to pay for them, or prefer the old school look but would still like to do something a little different.
As far as price goes, if you can cover your expenses and make a decent profit, $200 is really cheap IMO.
Seriously, I want a set before christmas :bigok:

All I have is my camera phone, I guess I know what I need to get for xmas coming up.
Here's a picture close up of the fitting...
http://www.tehl33tsite.com/240sxdd/tails/08-22-07_0209.jpg
Its a little blurry and theres still some silicone residue around the edges i didnt peel off yet, but it fits right in there snug.
I ran into a couple problems upon going into my garage today... My dad threw away my pattern!!! As well as the cut-out I had premade incase I ever had to remake them again. And the pattern I used (which is close to the stock pattern, you cannot find at home depot or lowes, I looked) so I have to go on a scouting adventure to find the pattern again.
For starters, I will make one set of coupe tails and one set of hatch, just to see how they pan out, then I'll remake accordingly if I feel the vibe and people are satisfied with them. So consider them in the making, but first I gotta go find the supplies!!! I'll try to have them done before christmas.
:bigok:
edit: and if you want them smoked I may be able to do that for an extra charge, we'll have to see...

any word on my question??
I'll buy them from you outright. PM me your shipped price to 32828. I can reserve a set for you but you'll pay normal price.
Update: I found the clear florescent pattern that I needed so all I need now is tail lights! I'm only doing hatchback tails because the coupe tails curve too much at the end for the cutout to maintain its shape under stress.

i dont really want to sell them and then buy them back, i was just curious to see if you would charge a labor type deal.

Yeah, I guess you could consider these tails the cheaper alternative to the kouki tails. I would only put stock, these, or kouki tails on my hatch. Period.

There may be 15 sets of tails, however how many of those are in mint condition? If you can find mint conditioned tails (no scratches, scuffs absolutely nothing at all) let me know, I'll buy them off of you and I can reserve a set for you. PM me if you have anymore questions.

It's not plexiglass, its a clear prismatic florescent lighting pattern (used for florescent lights to reflect the bright glares). The pattern I'm using is close to the stock pattern so the tail lights maintain the stock appearance and don't look tacky at all.
The ones I made for my car took me 2 days to make, mainly because of the dremel battery shitting out on me. But I take my time with these and I'm a perfectionist so you can only expect the best from me.
As a sidenote these will come with brand new bulbs, so they'll simply be plug and play and I will test each set before I ship them out.
thanks all
edit:
xblack240x, no I'm not doing that. If you want to sell me yours and then buy them back from me we can do it that way.

so did you decide on a price?
I literally have about 20 people ready to buy these tail lights. WAY MORE than I had originally intended, and since the demand is so high and it takes me some time to make these, the price as of right now is $250 shipped.
Keep in mind this price factors in the left and right tail lights, brand new bulbs (clear and amber), supplies, labor, shipping, paypal fees... etc etc
which isnt too bad since kouki tails run like $400, so this is still a cheaper alternative that still looks great.
Update: I have three sets on the way, so my first for sale thread will consist of three sets and the first three people to call dibs in the thread will get them so you may want to stick to your seats next week because I should have them done, either that or the week after.
thanks all

No. Unless of course you want to take the chance of me permanently messing up your tail lights. I don't won't to be liable for anyones property, its a burden on my shoulder.
As a sidenote, I totaled my white 240sx (hit a curb sideways and then into a tree)... I was worried my tail lights would be messed up, but sure enough they held strong and still functioned like normal. So they've passed the crash test, very durable.
