So, for Thanksgiving I came home and I had a few things waiting for me. Of course I was excited, like any gear head, I was looking forward to installing my newly acquired Koyo rad. http://www.ka-t.org/forums/images/smiles/icon_lol.gif It was alll shiny and thick. (<- that may have sounded like a homosexual pun, but i assure you it wasnt intentional.) But anyway, since I had finished up my KA-T project, I noticed that it was running a bit hot when I get into it every now and then. So I got the koyo and dropped it in. On top of that, I had an SAFC 2 lying around so I finally threw that in as well.
The install of both went very smoooothly, and while I was messing with my car I decided to re-route some wires and make the engine bay look semi- pretty. Unfortunately, thanksgiving break was over and I had to head back to school http://www.ka-t.org/forums/images/smiles/icon_confused.gif . Being OCD, I filled up the gas tank with some genuine 93 octane BP gas with invigorate and reset the trip meter. Off I went back to school. While cruising for 2 hours, obviously, I messed with the safc. checking my afr's while I was on the highway, I was upset because they were a bit too rich. Still under vacuum, running 12-13:1 afr was noooo good, IMO.
Back in the day when I finished my KA-T, I got the good ol' guys at enthalpy to set up a tune for my 550cc injectors and z32 mafs. The tune was basically what I expected, but not as good as it could be. With the help of the afc and my awesome blue led wideband gauge powered by innovative's wideband controller, I began to lean things out. During cruising I had the afr's steady at 14.7-15.2. Previously, I was getting a respectable 25-26 mpg on the highway. I got back to school and filled up the tank again, Although I only burnt a little over a quarter of a tank and calculated my mpg. Just guess what they came out to be!!! a whopping 36.56 mpg!! To me, having a boosted 14.5 year old car and getting better gas milage than a brand new 2008 corolla is bad ass.
I doubt most of you guys looking at this thread read the entire post. But it's alllll gooood. I figured I post my findings becasue I'm slightly retarded and the smallest things amuse me. http://www.ka-t.org/forums/images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

Hrm....36.56 mpg.... this might only be for a few miles......obviously not under boost.

And the stock s13's gas mileage with a Dual Cam?

Manual: 22 mpg / 27 mpg
Automatic: : 21 mpg / 26 mpg

Range in Miles: (City/Highway)
Automatic: 333.9 mi. / 413.4 mi.
Manual: 349.8 mi. / 429.3 mi.

Good luck continuing to keep that great mileage! I normally get about 300 miles per tank? Anyone else can concur?

EDIT: 4:20 th post !!!!!!!!!!!! ;)

I just replaced my o2 sensor and got 27mpg,

300 MILES LATER, my mileage is slowly going back down, for some odd reason.

I predict it is the ECU, richening things up. Resetting the ECU might yield results.

I get 550-600 km (340-370 miles) per tank on my SR with bolt ons if I drive like a vagina

Oh yeah, I barely hit boost. Pretty much flat land, chilling in 5th gear at about 70mph. a few hills came up and i hit maybe 3-5psi at most. I never really go past 25% throttle on the highway.

I used to be like that, but turns out cruising at 14.5 -14.7 afr is actually not all that great for your motor. You actually get better torque and HP and can save your 20 year old motors if you just turn it down to 13.3 or around there... Get like 2 more miles per gallon to save your motors I think is a more sound proposition.

I tuned the afr's to run close to 14.7-15.2 at around 12-20 in/Hg of vac. and closer to 13.2-13.5 when it reaches atmospheric and boost is standard enthalpy tune at 11.2ish. and my motor is about 4 months old, being an idiot before cause me to rebuild her with all forged materials .
thanks for the heads up though!

Haha, I'm not going to even start with you. Your post has no relevance to this thread. I put the miles conversion RIGHT NEXT to the kilometer figures.

Anyways, a light foot will always help, no matter what car/motor/set up. By the way OP, what turbo are you running?

I can consistantly get around 420 miles per tank on 87 gas on my na sr and it is still running on the stock ecu, I can't wait until I get the correct wiring harness and see what kind of mileage i will get then.
