Ok, so I finally got to drive my other 240 home today from my uncles, and I have a question referring to this god awful noise coming from the valve cover. My friend Will replaced the upper tensioner, my uncle said the chain itself was fine, but it started that clanking noise again and I know it needs the upper guide(s). Ive done some reading trying to figure out which is which, and so far Ive found the there is supposably a total of 3 guides, 2 upper and 1 lower. What I dont know is which is which, cant find that anywhere, and on any website for parts, they dont specifically say upper or lower, they say left and right or some shit like that, so if anyone could tell me, or link me to a autozone/napa/some parts store, and tell me which one(s) I am going to need for the upper guide(s) to be changed, I would more than appreciate it. Again, theyre referred to as "drivers side, passanger side, right, left, etc." everything BUT upper/lower.
Cliff notes/Long story short-Link or let me know which guides I need to have to replace all upper one(s)
P.S. ka24de :)
Thanks again in advance

My car was having the same problem. check to make sure that your oil pan has no dents in it, and also check your oil pickup and make sure that isnt bent. Mine was bent and i had dents in my oil pan = no oil up top meaning grindy noise from under the valve cover.

thanks, ill check that out tomorrow...weird thing is, after putting the tensioner on, it stopped for a little while, did it on the way home...then stopped after sitting for ~30mins, and started once it warmed up...i think worse case it would be its getting crap/no oil pressure around the chain :(
but ill check that out too...thanks

Very top one is the easiest to remove. Take off the valve cover and it's a single solid black piece of metal held by one or two bolts. Take those off and you're good. The 2nd upper one is harder to remove seeing as you need to remove the timing chain cover, distributor, and set the timing to TDC just to access it. Remove the first one first. If the noise continues then remove the 2nd one. If the noise still continues and you've made sure that your tensioners are in proper working order... low oil pressure might be the problem.

Yeah, the low oil pressure thing is worrying the crap out of me right now...I remember when we had it off, and before the new tensioner was on there, it looked like it had been hitting the 2nd upper one, I didnt pay to much attention to the 1st upper one. Hopefully that will take care of my problem, I appreciate the help :)
