View Full Version : Blitz BOV = no sound at all!

I've got a Blitz DD blow off valve, and I can't hear it at all - ever. It's mounted in between the SMIC and the intake manifold. Stock boost.
Are they supposed to be really quiet, or could it be messed up?

well, are you getting compressor surge?

where are you running your vacuum lines for the BOV??

don't know and don't know.
I didn't install it, so I haven't looked around too closely.
How loud are those usually, noticeable?

Mine's pretty quiet. When I do hear it, it sounds like a big sploosh of air. Is your spring adjusted too tight? Are your vacuum lines all hooked up in the right spot? How high are you taking your rpms to? I usually don't hear mines until past 4k rpm. Relook all your vacuum... I dunno though...Good luck!

looks like a quick search is all you needed http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZhG_z6QC0i8

Why is mounted on the coldpipe for a car with sidemount?
Is the vacuum line hooked up correctly?
Is your car even boosting?
There are so many things that can be happening that we would not know where to start.
My suggestion is to search and trace the vacuum line back to the TB. It's supposed to go straight to the TB with no Ts or connectors anywhere else.
After that you need to check the spring pressure. It may be set so stiff that it's not blowing off at all.
Then you need a good digital boost gauge with the sensor connected to the FPR vacuum hose. Check SRswap.com for info.
Do all those and come back later if you're still having problem.
I would also ask someone about why the BOV should be mounted where it is.

Yeah never really understood the BOV on the cold pipe sence the purpose of the BOV is to keep air from going back into the turbo. Closer to the turbo the better:-/

So I am guessing you are using stock SMIC setup? I bet you did not remove your stock Bypass valve.
What you have to do is take off your front bumper and remove the factory bypass valve (and cap stuff off).
GL and rep me if it worked :)

i was under the impression that closer to the throttle body would be best, for throttle response.
fyi, s14 and s15 sr20's came with the recirculation valve on the coldpipe.
if your not getting compressor surge (that fluttering sound from the turbo), and your getting your ideal boost when you're supposed to (and with no boost leaking as well), I see no problem other than the lack of the "woosh" noise.

yeah, close to the throttle body is fine. Its a preference thing.
either way works.
if your BOV isn't working, its cuz your vacuum line isn't hooked up right.

well the closer to the turbo the louder it sounds. thats why all stock bov's are right next to the tb its the quietest place to put them

This is a very good point. Stock S13 has a bypass valve mounted under the sidemount, towards the left fender. Take a quick look and see if it's still connected.
I was questioning the positioning of the BOV on the cold pipe when the stock setup has it on the sidemount.
If you want to keep it on the cold pipe, you need to plug the sidemount where the old CBV used to be.
S14/15 has the CBV on the cold pipe. It's preference, but closer to the TB is better.

Check your sidemount to see if your stock bypass valve is there.

even with your stock recircilation valves it should still be making sound it will be a little quiter it sounds like you dont have any boost or your vacuum line isnt hooked up correctly

I borrow this from the vendor's section: http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w306/SusanR34/Zilvia/darren053.jpg
The stock sidemount has 3 ports: 2 for the piping and 1 for the bypass valve. If you're running the sidemount with an aftermarket BOV mounted somewhere else you need to remove the stock bypass valve and plug the port.
