View Full Version : SCV (butterflies) dyno charts?

After doing a shitload of research on different forums, I've been getting conflicting good/bad reviews on removing the SCV (butterflies) from the intake manifold.

Has anyone seen a dyno chart of a before and after removal of the butterflies? It seems most people base it off the ass dyno, but I haven't come across any "proof". I've seen people claiming to run rich, to flooding cylinders, to loosing notceable torque up to 4k, and just really random stuff that could have numerous variables as to why their problems are occurring.

If I were boosted or had aftermarket engine management of some sort, it wouldn't be an issue, but I really don't' want to lose any low-end torque. Right now I have an intake and header, stock exhaust. I'm in the process of removing EGR and I've removed the charcoal canister, so the manifold is already off.

from what i've read, s14 ka's didn't come with the scv butterflies, so you by no means need them... and the positive effects aren't very noticable, and the negatives aren't that noticable... it's just basically a way to de-clutterize your engine bay and intake manifold

as for before and after dynos, i've got nothing...and i'm willing to bet the gains wouldn't be remarkable

I dont have a dyno chart or anything, but I DEFINETLY noticed a loss of low end torque, my car feels like my d16 civic daily driver feels down low. its hard to say if i noticed power up top, because ive done alot of other mods at the same time.

^ i wouldnt say the power at the lower is is comparable to a d16 but the top end does improve a little. my friend did it to his intake manifold and its a nice improvement. and yes the s14 doesnt have them at all

much like removing the auto transmission resistor - removing the butterfly valves is bullshit, leave them there.
