Has anyone done a six speed conversion on a ka24de 240?
I have a 350Z 6sp and I am thinking about swaping it with the 5sp from my 92 240. Any suggestions on where to find parts to do so?

The only kit you can buy is for an SR. Anything else will be custom.

Just rebuild the 5spd, do you seriously need 6 gears for a KA? Negative

yeah if you really want it to work, a custom bellhousing is going to be in order.

lawl.... 0 mileage tranny on 200k engine

i'm kind of interested to see the outcome.

The only thing that would come out of that is to say you have a useless gear. The KA isnt a 6spd car for a reason, hell im suprised my DE has the power it does in 5th gear on the highway. Not enough to warrant a 6th and the time/money

I don't know the exact gearing on either tranny but aren't the 5th gear on a ka tranny and the 6th gear on the z tranny are only overdrive gears. The extra gear would only mean shorter gear ratios from 1st-4th, 5th being 1 to 1 gear ratio, and 6th being overdrive. But then again, I don't know Z 6speeds.

Putting a six speed in would be dumb. I mean really come on.

A weaker tranny that does jack shit for your final drive when in the final gear.

wtf.

The KA isnt a 6spd car for a reason

yeah, the reason is that it was designed in the '80s. virtually nothing came with a 6 speed before '98.

closer gearing helps more on smaller engines with a narrower powerband like the KA. i think using the stock 4.08 final drive is a bad idea because the gearing would be ridiculously short. the z33 final drive would probably work pretty well. it tightens up the gearing a little, but the KA could handle a slightly longer highway gear.

Just for the record, the VQ tranny is built like a brickhouse (as long as it's not from a 2003-2004 Nissan which had a couple recalls).
Honestly, you really don't need it. Just get another KA tranny.
Buy the VQ tranny, sell it, make monies, buy a KA tranny, and use that money on other cool stuffs

Mating the two up to each other and all the hassles that would go with it should be enough to deter you. I know it would for me.

because the s15 trans is weak if you want to put down some power. S15 trannys are the weakest sr trannys

Why not just swap in the 350z engine and tranny and call it a day.

couldnt you use a ka bellhousing on s15 tranny, because isnt the ka and sr tranny the same?

as i recall, on the s13/14, the speed sensor is located in the tranny. on the s15, it's on the rear differential.

ah , so you would have to change rear diffs as well , maybe drive shaft too? i know a guy that has a s14 engine/tranny swap , maybe i can get ahold of em and ask .

They may be the 'weakest sr tranny', but how much power will it hold? If he's going KA, chances are, he's not making a shit ton of power anyways, so the s15 tranny would be just fine for him, as far as power handling goes. That's like saying, 'Don't swap an s13 SR into your 240, its the weakest SR that came in them overseas.'

...If he's going KA, chances are, he's not making a shit ton of power anyways...

...wow.. really?:jerkit: You've obviously never seen the power potential of the KA. Either way, as long as you keep it tuned for mild power and aren't constantly thrashing it, an S15 trans should be fine. Regardless, he's not talking about one, since he has a Z33 trans, So lets drop the idea of S15 6speeds.

I just have the 6 sp and I was wondering if it would work. As for not having the power i have a t3/t4 hibrid that i was gonna install on the freshly rebuilt turbo engine i have already dropped about 4k into the spare motor with buying it building it and all the machine work. Not to mention all the electronics. But the next battle is ditributor or distributorless ignition.
