I tried setting my timing up this weekend and so I set the crank 2nd mark from the left than inserted the CAS like the FSM says and it went in fine. Well I went to turn it on and it shuts off after about 15 seconds. I can hear the fuel pump (walbro 255) on the whole time even after the car shuts off. I kept turning my CAS slightly to adjust the timing on it, but same thing, sometimes it would fire up quicker than other times, but still, doesn't stay. Vacuum lines are brand new, and IC piping couplers are on tight. Should it be turning off for such a sort time? Sometimes it can go on for about 20 seconds almost. I also checked the vacuum lines, and their nice and tight, also brand new lines. Even after I rotated(such as the last pictures) it still does the same thing

I took off the valve cover(again....) and obviously I had been trying to run the motor before, so I manually turned the crankshaft and I got this on the second mark from the left. You can see the gold chain on top.

On here I rotated the crankshaft 360 degree's and got this now. I can tell you that I never stumbled upon the darker colored chains, but this is what I got after the 360 spin, AFTER the gold links.

Yea the 2 chains that should be silverish have like faded for some reason, but are you sure its the second one from the right? because the camsshafts are pointing away from each other and when I looked into the cyclinder, the piston seemed to be at the top.

if the cas was 180 out or so the motor wouldnt run at all

Alrite I'll go try the right side than and see what happens, in about an hour

intake cam dowl sould be at 10 oclock and exhaust should be at 12 oclock

it also looks like you did the cas right so just go to the 15 degree timing mark at top dead center make sure your cams are in the position I said before and for shits double check your cas

Well if I set it to the 2nd mark from the right, the intake mark doesn't sit at around 10, and the exhaust one doesn't sit at around 2, is that fine?

is the piston at tdc

nissan240sxkid

and its straight up on the exhaust 12 oclock not 2

duffman1278

Yea straight up at 12 for the exhaust

well make sure the 1 piston is at tdc with it on the second to last mark from the right as you reset the chain and the gears to the clocked positions as well as redoing the cas

What do you mean by resetting the chain?

set the timing on the crank and tdc and loosen the chain and locate the cams to thoughs positions

But the thing is I never took out the head, the chain should be in the right place because if I turn the crank, the gold link comes up where it should be.

Made an interesting observation! maybe this has something to do with it, so if anyone could help that would be awsome. I pulled out all the spark plugs and noticed that no. 1 and 3 were wet, you could smell the fuel on them, however, no. 2 and 4 were bone dry, even the pistons were dry. pistons 1 and 3 however were not. Could this be a possible suspect?
