does anyone know how to make programs minimize into the notification area of the start menu bar? I use lotus notes a lot at work but I hate having it open and taking up space at the bottom, so I was hoping i could just have it minimize to the notification icon's area, anyone???

some programs have the option to do that but i' sure there's a program out there.

i think you are talking about minimizing items to tray, it's not called notification area.

give it a shot? try searching "minimize" on download.com

Kinda a bit involved to do this, but you can set certain programs to run as services.

wow seems complicated just to change the location where a program minimizes too.... hmm

just use a program to do it for you instead of doing it manually

It's program dependent. The program itself has to be coded to work like that unless you find some kid of add-on for the program or a plugin/app for Windows.

Sucks you have to use Lotus, Thunderbird(using the MinimizeToTray plugin) and Outlook support minimizing to the tray.

msconfig?

start>run>type "msconfig"

go to tap, "services"

I belive you can allow certain programs to run and be featured on the pc.

Am I off this subject??

You can have the program run as a service, but if you just want to keep it from showing up in the taskbar, yet you want it to show up when you want it....

Use Rocketdock...which is a Windows rip of dock from OSX. Ironically the people that made it happen to use Mac OSX.

You can minimize programs to it, place it on any side of the screen, customize the icons and it has an autohide feature as well.

+1 for RocketDock. I use it on my work PC and my personal laptop. It rocks.
