Daijiro Inada - Founder of D1GP, OPTION Magazines as well as Tokyo Auto Salon - is going to hold a drift lesson event at El Toro Field in Irvine, CA, on Dec.2 with his friends, Japanese D1GP drivers, as instructors in order to expand the ground of drift participants in the USA.

This is an event mainly targeted at drift beginners, giving basic theories and knowledge on drifting, but intermediate level drifters can also participate in the drift practice session, and still receive ride-along lessons from the instructors.

D1GP driver is Kazuyoshi Okamura - Okachan - who is the owner of Silvia (240SX) tuning shop, YASHIO FACTORY, and the drift school, OKA-JUKU (held more than 40 times in various cities in Japan) will be on hand to provide his expertise. Another D1GP Driver is Toshiki Yoshioka - Toshi King - who drives an AE86 with 300 hp and gives drift lessons from time to time, will also provide instruction.

Federal Corporation will present this event on a quarterly basis in 2008, and offers free entry for the participants with Federal tires on their cars. For non Federal users, entry fees are $125(beginner) and $100(intermediate), with their own cars as well.

Hey I saw your car at the Shine Aero meet. Looks good. But why did you mold the aero to the car? You know you're gonna scrape the hell out of it once it's lowered and it's gonna be a bitch to fix. Nice car, though!

This seems like an awesome idea, too bad everything sweet for drifting is on the west coast:fawk2:. If they come to the east coast and my car is operable I'll probably do anything to go.

damn this event was fun! good track time... Great instruction...

the JDM D1 dudes (dunno their names) took turns standing at the exit of the beginner course giving instruction to everyone that went through...

My last run of the day, 2 of the instructors were there and gave me a round of applause as I drove up to them..... they told me I improved and could go to the intermediate course but I was out of tires :(

anyways... had a blast!!! and thank goodness for City Tire for being there!!!

everyone got free JDM option dvd's and other goodies!

only bad thing was...

ELtoro eats tires like a MOFO!!!

El Toro road at that base/course is very shitty. I used to work security there and used to mess around in my 95 Continental a couple of years back.

Very rough and rocky road from what I last remember. But what else do you expect from an Air Force base with jets landing and taking off all day? lol

gripology
12-03-2007, 10:35 AM
This event was pretty fun. I spent most of the day un-learning some "bad" habits, but finally got to give the inter course a try. Had no idea El Toro was so brutal on tires! Overall it was a lot of fun...the lines were a little long to get on course, but worth the wait in the end. It was cool to see people (and myself) getting better and better throughout the day. Hope to see you all at the next one!

There is an AeroDyne Gymkana at WS this sat...www.carimageland.com for details. They put on a fun event and set up some really challenging courses.
