I know you can add stuff to your insurance policy but Im not sure if they are going to cover the SR. When I got my insurance for my car, I asked if I could get the wheels and other parts insured. They had a cap of $4000.00. I would have to bring in the reciepts to show proof and it would obviously add to my rate. I'm pretty sure you can go to one of the insurance sites and get a rate quote including parts. I think Gieco shows you all the options available. I have GMAC and they said I could add the parts if I wanted to. I just never asked about the SR.

Go with any of the larger insurance companies like State Farm, Farmers, AAA, Allstate, etc. They give you less hassle when a claim comes, and they usually pay out a lot better than any of the smaller, brokered insurance companies.

Allstate is supposedly the best policy to have when you're taking an (censored) to small claims court (something I'm doing right now). When I got the car appraised after the accident, they said my modifications were only covered if I had a receipt for all my parts... thank god for working in the auto industry with the ability to make invoices :)

Definitely be carefull with which company you go with, I don't know how it is in Florida, but here in Cali, Allstate isn't supposed to even write you if you have any kind of suspension mod, and will try their best not to cover you if you have supposed "racing modifications" under the hood. I should know.. I'm an Agent. But check with Allstate in Florida, maybe they're different?

I have Progressive, they are awesome, I went through (solo Insurance) brokers, I pay 150 a month, for full coverage, and I have 3 points on my licensce.
I had called Farmers, and they quoted me on 400+ a month, lol
I told them to suck it!!!!!
and progressive is SUPER easy when you have a claim or accident,
(I say this because they have covered 3 accidents of mine, 2 hit and runs and 1 fender bender)
they send someone out to see your car same day you make the claim, the guy came to my work place in 2 separate occasions that i had minor hit and runs, one was only a bumper scratch. they pay it all, and the checks come to you in your name not to the insurance, plus you can get your car upraised and they will insure it for that price,
check them out,
hope ths didnt sound like a commercial cuz its all true,
ps:
they also cover up to $1000 over the value of the car.in case of accidents for aftermarket parts, all they do is ask for a receipt.
(they also do not go by blue book value, there is another cmpany, (i forgot the name) but the value for 240s is more than $1000 higher than blue book, so the guy told me if i had decided to totall my S14 (97) he would have given me $10.000 cuz of the extra thousand for aftermarket parts..
long post but worth reading!!!

im getting ripped. 75 bucks a month for the bare minimum insurance. 10,000 deductible. just enough insurance to keep the plate on the car.

well some of that is true.... but after so many losses the ins. co. will no longer accept u. trust me. i work for a ins. broker. and this client of ours with progressive crashed his 2005 porshe gt3, yeah they covered it 106,000 dollar, but when he got his 08 lamborghini they told him he wasnt renewing next term.... plus u have a and 97 s14 so its
still new. a 89-95 lets say ins. co. sometimes wont accept the full covereage cuz its old.
it all depends what insurance co. u plan to get. all the farmers, aaa, all state, and state farms are prefered co. meaning got to have clean record, i know that farmers covers to a certain extent, such as sound systems and exterior stuff. but performance objects, i dont know any one in the market that will cover that.
unless its in a antique model ins. but those type of policies are accept years 77& down must be classic cars.
my suggestion is just stay with the liability w/ uninsured motorist. why cuz its cheap, there are a lot of plp driving w/out ins and if you have an accident not at fault the other party pays. and if its uninsured your ins. co. will go after the other party.

I don't see how you can "insure" an SR swap in a street 240....technically, they are illegeal in the first place, so I don't see that happening

Yes, they cover anything aftermarket, like my koyo radiator, intercooler, etc. (these were the only performance related items that were damaged)but of course up to 1000,
I would say if your car is worth more than 4000 than get full coverage!

It will depend on the adjuster. My friend got paid $6500 for his 91 240sx w/ sr. Farmers paid $2300 for his car, and $4200 for his aftermarket parts. The Farmers adjuster said Farmers can insure up to $10k in aftermarket parts. Anything more will have to get sent in for approval.
I have some of my stuff added to my policy with Geigo and my rate didn't change yet. When I asked about an engine swap the guy told me they wouldn't cover it because it falls under the "street racing profile". After explaining some ways around it he said if my old engine blew and I replaced it he could add the upgraded one on but I never specific said which type. Also they will cover aftermarket parts up to the value of the car. The parts that are not listed the insurance will pay to have the OEM parts replaced. Hopefuly I will never find out.

With Geico, you can choose online what aftermarket parts you have, and they'll insure your car for the extra value. Except, anything that isn't shit like "portable refridgerator" or "aftermarket window coverings" (seriously, what the fuck) falls under "other." I filled out "other," put my engine swap in, estimated value (I said $3000), and then had to go to the Geico office and have someone look at it to confirm. Lady didn't even open the hood; just came out, walked around the car, marked any scratches/body damage. Done.
Rate for me and my wife (2 cars) is around $95/month right now, with some combination of liability/collision/comprehensive on either/both cars, I can't remember exactly which.

wtf?! 95 per month for 2 drivers and two cars!? why am i getting ripped off so badly? full coverage on my 240sx is 350 bucks a month!!! and my record is clean... and i'm only 1 year younger than you are...
right now I pay 75 bucks a month for the bare minimum insurance. $10,000 deductible, what a fucking joke...
the whole car insurance thing is such a scam. I should just go uninsured like so many people in Florida do. If I do happen to get into an accident with one of those people, I dont get shit, because I dont have uninsured motorist coverage, what kind of crap is that?

Don't know man, it might have something to do with where you live? I don't know anything about Fort Lauderdale, but Virginia Beach is considered a pretty low-risk area. I know when my wife (girlfriend then) lived in the Bay Area, her insurance was a lot more expensive.
I definitely won't argue with you about it being a scam though :(

Most insurance companies won't cover performance aftermarket parts. But i believe alot of the easily removable parts can be filed under your home owner's insurance as long as you can provide them with the receipts.
I have mercury and they've been pretty good to me, paying only about $160 a month for $0 deductible full coverage $45K/65K car damage

!
I pay $88/month (I'm almost positive) through State Farm for minimum coverage on my S14! I'm clean too...
I heard from my brother that a guy from his Mazda 6 forums was involved in an accident and insurance covered little to no aftermarket parts costs. So the guy took the case to court and won all the money he spent for parts he had receipts for.

I actually bought ESURANCE ( crap) the reason why is cause my car wasnt insurance for a long time and when u have no insurance for that long the top insurance companys like geico, allstate, statefarm etc etc wont insurance your car , so basically u have to find a cheap mickymice company stay with them for 6-12 months them try a good company. just a head up esurance actually cover up to 4000 dollars in extra parts and u can do it online everything , it was pretty easy .. im paying 215 OUCH . 100 bucks deductible( i like it that way) and 4000 for extra parts , all that add money to your monthly payment, it was only 150 without the 4000 and with 500 deductible .

Dude, its S.Florida, we have the worst drivers in the country. I am 32 and pay 250/mo. for 3 cars, a 2000 honda accord(full coverage & my dd), my wifes expedition, and my '93 240, the last 2 cars have only pip/liabilty. This is w/crappy Statewide Ins. I will be trying to get w/allstate or some bigger company and then insure my 240 w/full coverage.

I definitely agree with you on the worst drivers in the country. between the uneducated (driving-wise) immigrants and the old people on the road, its a fucking mess.
what i don't get is how geico is advertising everywhere that they have dropped the rates in Broward county, I sure as hell don't see it.
I just got a quote today from Allstate to get full coverage on my 91 240sx.
remember, I have a CLEAN driving record. not one point. nothing.
$525 per month!!!!!!!!!!!! for a car that is worth MAYBE $3,000, at most.
SCAMMING BASTARDS.

Bringing this topic back from the thread since i'm looking for new insurance.
It seems that people suggest to not mention your mods and in the case of an accident have the car appraised. Are there any companies you can forward me to that have this same policy. God forbid something happens to my car and they don't cover shit.
I've researched Esurance, Progressive and Liberty Mutual all of them have a 5000 dollar cap to customization mods.
(I have reciepts for all my parts)
