Im having a problem with my S14 when its at an idle. The revs are erratic, jumping from 300-600, and sometimes it even stalls itself. I've heard numerous reports from people who have had the same problem. Anyone know what could cause this? I hear something about the EGR valve, or the IAA, any help would be great <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

it could also be your throttle position sensor (TPS) so u might want to check that too

The Idle Air Control Valve seems to be a culprit to a lot of idle problems. To find it, on a s14, locate the throttle body. Move over to the right about 1.5", and there should be a tube connecting there. Remove that tube, and check for dirt, oil, and crap. Start your engine (it will want to stall fast, you may want someone to hold the throttle for ya) and when the engine is running, spray carb cleaner in the tube. Replace the hose, and you should be good. If that's not it, occasionally the grounds on the IACV go bad, and check to reground it. If that doesn't work, remove it. If that doesn't work... it'll really suck.
Also, the EGR just recycles exhaust gasses into the engine again. It shouldn't affect revs at all. Mine is welded shut.

Where is the IACV on an S13? I have a similar problem with mine. When I start it up, the engine revs up to about 900 and then immediately dies. I have to hold the throttle open for a few seconds at around 1300 and then back it down. It will idle fine after that. I already took apart and cleaned the thing (can't remember the name off hand) on the drivers side shock tower that connects into the air box, but that didn't help. Thanks for any help.

I think you mean the MAFS - Mass Air Flow Sensor <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

Nah Chief, that wasn't it. This was attached to the airbox by a vacuum hose and bolted to the shock tower, kinda underneath the master cylinder. I took it apart and cleaned out the "reeds" but that didn't help any.... Oh well, the search continues.

hmmm... is it possible egr valve produces black smoke from the exhaust? <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'>
