grab the output shafts and turn one of them while trying to hold the other. If they both turn the same direction and you can't stop one from turning then it is a LSD. Also look for the neon orange sticker on the side that says VLSD or viscous....

you mean if you CAN stop or slow the other one from moving. open diff means both outputs move at the same speed.

No. on open diff the shafts will rotate in different directions, while on lsd they'll go in the same direction.

Why not just look for the orange "VISCOUS LSD" sticker? It's a lot more certain than any output shaft trick. A f'ed up open diff will pass a lot of those "tests".

When looking to buy a S13 years 89-91, how can you tell or know if the car has an LSD at all??? Thank you everyone.

I stand corrected. open diff is if you put the car up and you turn one wheel, the other wheel will rotate in the other direction. I remember this now.

If it's an '89-'90, it just plain doesn't have one. It wasn't an option. No way, no how. The only possibility would be one installed by a previous owner.

In '91 to '93, only fastbacks, and only the ones that say "SuperHICAS" on the sides.

er wrong , it was a factory option that could be ordered along with the ABS and you did not have to have superhicas.
