View Full Version : Rear Brakes upgrade for a 95

does anyone know what upgrades are out there, i cracked my caliper and my rotor on the drivers side, and i was just going to replace it with aftermarket stuff but i cant seem to find anything that will fit back there? its on 17's and the i was thinking about the Z change, will that work on the back? or should i try and track down brembos? i''ve got a strange setup, somehow, i have no idea how, but i bought the car like it, it has ABS and LSD, yet its got a 4 lug setup, who knows.

you can buy Z brakes but youll have to have them redrilled for 4 lugs.

do they have to be ABS specific? or will any of them work with ABS. i'd like to retain that option. <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'> anyone know of other cross-drilled or slotted rotors that will fit a 95, everything i seem to find only find 7/96-98.

I was under the impression that the rear brakes off the Z's could not be directly bolted on to the s14. &nbsp;Please tell me that i am wrong

Rear brakes bolt up, but you need the dust shields if you want to use an e-brake.

i need to have the dust shields off the Z as well, or the 240's dust shields? and it doesn't matter if they were non-abs on the Z?

hold up. &nbsp;you have 4-bolt. &nbsp;that means no abs or lsd. &nbsp;you could have lsd if you or the other owners did a swap, but theres no way you have abs. &nbsp;

i bought x-drilled rear rotors for my 4-bolt 95. &nbsp;They are readily available. &nbsp;5-bolt x-drilled rear rotors don't exist, so that's what you're probably finding, but 4-bolt are everywhere.

what about thhe master cylinder does that have to be swapped as well or just the brake lines

The Z dust shields houses the drum type e-brake assembly, which fits in the concavity of the back of the rotor. You will also need to either find another brake cable or make your own. I'm not sure if to need ABS specific parts or not.

The 240sx M/C has been proven to handle the 4 wheel Z brake upgrade just fine so there really isn't a need to change it.

ironically, i have a 4 lug setup, and i do have ABS, it just snowed here, and i felt those things kick in like crazy, and i never felt that in my integra, which is non-abs, so i know i they are really there. So if i were to buy TT Z rotors and calipers, and of course get the lines and adapters from PDM, then they should bolt up and work (i've got 17's , which is hear is the clearnce you need for the TT brakes) I'm just worried about losing the ABS thats my main concern.

15&quot; wheels will clear the Z brakes, #### i bet 14&quot; would too. You only need minimum 17&quot; for the brembos.

The ABS controller is under your hood, so unless you remove that your ABS should be fine.

do you have an abs light in your speedo gauge cluster? &nbsp;i wouldn't just assume that you have abs cause you think you felt it. &nbsp;your stopping distance w/out abs is shorter in the snow and rain compared to cars w/ abs. &nbsp;

I've never, ever heard of a 4-lug with abs.

i'd call up a nissan dealer, give em your VIN and let them tell you what options your car had when new.

yeah my stopping distance blows in the snow cuz of the abs, and yeah i got the light, and i get the knocking back at my foot and clicking noise of the abs, and the controller is under the hood. i have a funny feeling that since i bought the car with 17's on it, the previous owner (got it at an auction) had the lugs switched so he could fit the particular rims he had to the car, just a thought.

ok, that makes sense, but then did he just re-drill the stock rotors too? &nbsp;cause 4-bolt rotors won't work with the abs. &nbsp;you'll have to buy 5-bolt rotors and re-drill them.
