It's pretty neat.

Very clean and modern looking, yet at the same time reminds me of iRobot... don't know why.

If it wasn't on a tC I'd probably like it more.

if anyone can find me a flat red picture, that would be great. something i might think of doing if its at all possible and doesn't look like asshole

but overall i do like the flat paint look

EDIT:

All i found was this and I can't decide whether the car itself looks like ass or its the paint

haha, ya we charge a bit cheaper then the rest, because my over head is way lower then those typical big custom bodyshops. I dont want to sound like im advertising, so ill just make a post on zilvia on the fs section.

I MADE THIS THREAD TO TRY TO SEE WHAT PEOPLE THINK OF THEM? BECAUSE I AM THINKING OF STARTING TO RUN A DEAL ON THESE PAINT. I CAN MAKE A POLL, BUT I RATHER HAVE RESPONSES AND REASONS,...

===

as for the procedure, its the same as the normal paint job. A bit easier though, just the mixture is different, and the preparation and technique in shooting is bit confusing.

Knives, pm me i have a picture of a red for ya....

11-13-2007, 11:46 PM
Do you guys use clearcoat on them? Thats the part thats kinda iffy, I was told you can put a coat of Matte Clear coat on it (basically non-glossy) to protect the paint.

widegts
11-13-2007, 11:49 PM
flip - the process is the same

GLOSSY PAINT
- BASE COAT / CLEAR COAT

FLAT
- BASE COAT / *FLAT* CLEAR (same clear w/ special additives to make it flat when it dries)

----

as you shoot it, it is wet like normal clear, but in the end when it dries... POOOF! done flat

eastcoastS14
11-13-2007, 11:52 PM
yeah i love em....i think it depends on the car tho...done on the wrong car it can make it look pretty ghetto IMO

i made a thread about them a while ago....im sure its around somewhere

EASTCOAST- ahahahaha! your sig is funny!!!!!

widegts
11-13-2007, 11:55 PM
ya that is true tho, you cannot do flat with cars that dont have to many bodylines i think. If you have a beetle, i think itll look ugly...

but if you have a suby, or a s14, like a fellow zilvia member here i sold a hood to... he has a blue one... it looks flat.... anyone know his sig? i forgot

===

anyone here a painter? im good, but i would like to hear some lil pointers that you have learned. Like,...

- I have learned, painting in a non-spray booth, getting bugs are a bitch, so having tape is your friend to get them off safely without messn up the paint job

- wetting the floor 1hour before minimizes dust more then wetting 10min before painting.

RiversideS13

i think flat color only appeal to car maniacs, for people who are not into cars or do not know about cars, they will think you have discount paint. But i am wondering how was it like in car show competition?

widegts
11-14-2007, 02:05 AM
I would think that in competition, you would get less points compared to someone who has a glass finish paint job. It takes more work to do a glass finish paint job, then flat most of the time.

then again, POLITICS!, i hate car show judging...! I remember recently a car we did should of won 1st place at a show, but didnt because the one judging him didnt like midnight garage, who is a friend of mine who helps me at the shop. So this judge, saw that sticker, and we lost....

HAHAHAH but owell, win some, lose some...

after seeing all those flat cars at sema IN PERSON, i'll have to say i'm not into it.
it looks like plastic.

black, red, blue, green, they had lots of flat colors. all look like unfinished plastic.

widegts
11-14-2007, 02:33 AM
Andrew - that is true, what do you think of like a two tone type thing, where someone paints the bottum gloss black and flat black top..??

Andrew Bohan
11-14-2007, 02:55 AM
that makes it look way better, but still meh. i think flat is ok if it's a little bit here and there, but then plastic is okay if it's like that too.

flat and satin finish paint products are more expensive then just regular paint, because there is no such thing as a low grade flat paint job. i work at a paint store.

and flat only looks good on some cars like the s15 on other cars it just looks like primer, depending upon the color.

widegts
11-16-2007, 09:49 AM
jesus - u are right, depending on the base coat, the flat color may look beautiful, and in the rest... like crapola. So the base coat makes a big difference...

Blotter
11-18-2007, 11:40 AM
That's sexy.

use no metallic paint, and a matte clear. put an extra coat of that clear on, then wet sand the whole car to get rid of the orange peel and dirt. buff the car.
It'll look amazing.

The two Flatz i used are both from Kustom Shop that usajdm posted
The black was mistaken for primer a lot of the time. Kinda pissed me off.
The Daytona Blue that i picked up is a Flat Pearl, so there is a metallic silver flake mixed into it. Not your average dull "plastic" look.
And the paint and clear both have flat agents mixed into them.

And that Subie up above copied me.

btw widegts, still lovin my hood :bigok:

Yeah the newer stuff mixes a lot better. I had an issue with the first batch of Daytona Blue that i received. The flat agent didnt mix for shit and the color was glossy and looked like crap.
They sent me a new kit and it turned out awesome. Key to this paint is to mix the shit out of it, and definately between coats.

A lot of those aren't flat. They're semi-flat or semi-gloss. Whatev.

There's a thing on this honda forum (http://www.honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1512837&page=5) about it.

ouronepassion - that is true, flat paint is a bit different. IT IS the same as regular 2stage paint jobs, but the clear is flat. A certain amount of grams of a special addative mixed into the clear. Some can try to make the similar look with semi-gloss, but w/ these flat paints, U CAN WETSAND THE PANELS and it will wetsand just like regualr paints...

I can be in depth about it, but then again, i dont want to put to much info, if you have any questions feel free to ask...
