View Full Version : stripped e-brake cable tensioner

So yeah, I was trying to remove the ebrake cable locking nut to add some washers in there to increase the cable tension.
As I started to remove the nut I noticed the socket wrench getting hot. I had stripped all the threads.
I figure the fixes go something like this:
- buy a replacement front section e-brake cable
- remove the front section cable and have that thing either re-threaded or replace the threaded section.
Anyone else have any other options?

Dude, I threw away like a dozen ebrake handles last week. I may have another one though, you want it?

I don't need the handle. I need the front section of the e-brake cable. But yeah, I would like one if you have it.

You wouldn't need to replace the handle if you just stripped the bolt. The bolt is attached to the front cable.

i need to replace the handle because i warped the area where the cable is held on to. my cable no longer has the threaded end where the nut goes on so i did a ghetto clamp/smash to hold the cable on the handle.

I was asleep fools. The forward part of the cable and the handle are all one piece, at least enough to not take apart easily. I've got one for certain still in a car, I'll czech later today for more.

Did the nut strip or the stud(cable end fitting thing)? If the nut's threads stripped just run a die down the cable end part, and go get a new nut.

No, the thread stripped.
hahah, Russ, you just gotta remove the nut and then slip the cable out. But whatever, I'll take it if you got one for me.
Thanks pal.
