I guess so.

I usually dont search for shit like this, but every once and a while I think of shitty companies and say "what have they been upto lately?"

www.4apc.net

jack shit, apparently so. site is gone and:
"APC has gone out of business. Their product are no longer sold or carried on this site. American Products Company (APC) is a global leader offering unique and exciting performance and sytle-enhancing products to youth-minded automotive enthusiasts."
http://www.racing-seats-covers.com/apc.html

I guess the "global leader" is now globally gone, and according to this site, was acquired and now possibly sitting idle? I have no clue..
http://www.riversidecompany.com/news/n_p_apc.php

either way, I could've sworn I still see shit like that being sold at autozone, but I try to cover my eyes and pretend they dont exist.

another real funny thing i'de like to point out, is that most major auto part chains NO LONGER SELL ORIGINAL OE REPLACEMENT BULBS, they only sell blue coated bullshit bulbs.

i couldnt fuckin believe it. I was in awe! i had customers calling these last couple months telling me that they go to pep boys or autozone, and they DO NOT HAVE OE-style clear glass bulbs, as in 5-dollar replacement bulbs - they ONLY sell 40 dollar/pair blue coated made in china garbage.

buyer beware people, buyer beware. this fuckin industry is going to hell in a fuckin handbasket, and a chinese hand-basket at that. (no offense to chinese people, only chinese that sell cheap bootleg'ed shit-quality parts).

i even searched through SEMA.org's board of directors, and couldnt find Brian Horowitz (ceo of APC). he used to be on the board of directors, but no more. odd.

there sure are some weird fuckers on the board of SEMA though, look at these clowns:

The funny mustache guy is Dennis Gage of "My Classic Car" fame. The mustache fits right in with most of the cars he features on his shows. It's just funny to see it in a more modern setting. :keke:

Is it just me or does Dennis Gage look like he should be wearing a leather helmet and gogles, twisting up the propeller of a early 1900s Airplane. WTF.

APC no!!!!!!! Oh how we miss you're neon products.
I'm glad that I can still find OE Headlamps bulbs, etc in my local stores tho

Personally, I'm glad they're gone. I'm tired of getting crappy car gifts from my family, and their FAVORITE brand to buy me is APC. They think it looks "cool".

American Products Company To Pay $650,000 Civil Penalty For Sale of Lamps Not Meeting Safety Standards

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced today that American Products Company (APC) has agreed to pay a $650,000 civil penalty as a result of its manufacture, certification, and sale of replacement lamps that did not comply with federal safety standards.

Over the past several years, APC sold various models of noncomplying replacement tail lamps, commonly sold as “clear” tail lamps or “Eurotail” lamps. Some of the non-complying models replaced red lamps and reflectors with clear ones. Others were missing side marker lamps or reflectors.

APC also sold other noncompliant replacement lighting equipment, including clear corner and bumper lenses and high-intensity discharge (HID) conversion kits. The nonconforming equipment was sold by a variety of retailers. The lamps and lenses have been the subject of four recalls covering thousands of parts.

The parts and model numbers associated with these safety recalls are listed on NHTSA’s web site, http://www.nhtsa.gov/ under the recall numbers 99E-039, 00E-078, 01E-035 and 03E-014. Part and model numbers are located either on the lamps or on the packaging in which the lamps were sold. Consumers with questions about this or any other safety recall campaign should call NHTSA’s toll-free Auto Safety Hotline, (888) 327-4236.__________________

I think the only reason you see stuff in the stores is from old stock they're just trying to liquidate...

APC was pretty big. I'd be surprised if that fine would be enough to put it out of business. not that I'm complaining. hopefully we'll be seeing less and less of those stupid APC windshield banners. I just shake my head every time I see one.

I have Dennis Gage's autograph.
Twice.
I tried to get him to sign my 1990 240SX sales brochure.
He wouldn't do it.

yeah, Dennis Gage is a seriously cool dude. The moustache is weird, but it matches his personality perfectly. My Classic Car is one of my favorite shows on Speed. I guess that really isn't saying much considering how slim the pickings are on Speed anymore, but honestly, it's an interesting show. I always love it when they go to Jay Leno's garage. He always has something you've never heard of.

Of course APC is dead. They came up with Green taillights for a GM Pickup. Any company that does that had better evaporate fast.

Bushido
11-14-2007, 02:06 PM
i believe apc was sued by the dot for producing uncompliant taillights, i heard that they changed thier name to "pilot" and they are still making shitty parts, just under that name now.

IStop4NoMan
11-14-2007, 02:36 PM
^^ that doesnt sound too far fetched. they pretty much do make all the same crap. shift knobs, lights, pedals, rice. all the crap you dont really need.

We should have a "APC is dead" party. its definately something to celebrate!
