hey guys, noob in changing a timing chain.... i just have a question and i have searched already but didnt find the info i needed.
i took off everything on the front side of the engine: all the pulleys, belts, bolts, the valvecover and upper timing chain covers but i am having a problem taking off the lower timing chain cover despite taking all the bolts around the lower cover and the bolts on the front part of the oil pan, all the hoses connected to it, water pump and crank pulley is off too.
i looked at the fsm and it talks about a crank pulley damper? i cant seem to find it.... and do i need to break the front main seal to pull it out?
thanks in advance for the info guys.

no the front main seal is pushed into the front cover. It comes out with the cover. you should have removed 9 bolts from the lower cover total, and another 9 front the front upper cover also. So 18 bolts total.
You just gotta get in there with a couple of scrapers on each side and pry it off. Put your back into it!!
I would use a scraper and a hammer to work it loose gently around the edges. Screwdrivers can damage the aluminum cover to easily.

if everything is out of the way and its still stuck just tap it a little with a rubber mallet to break the seal.

ok... there are half inch gaps between the cover and the block all the way around. i'll try prying it off again. thanks!
tap where? the crank? i was thinking about that ....

You guys are clowns.
The oil pickup is hanging up, you have to drop the oil pan to gain clearance.

Yeah raise the motor off the engine mounts, or remove the crossmember and pull that oil pan off.
You will see the reason you couldn't get it off.
Hope you didn't chip or break your lower front cover yet.

Oh shit I assumed he already got the pan off!! DOH' Yeah the pick up is a major PTIA even for an "in the car" oil pan gasket.
