View Full Version : Why are my oem size rotors rubbing the dust shield

I've been dealing with this metal to metal scrapping sound for a while now. It happens on hard turns just about near full lock going either way. It used to not do that. I know when I got my wheels put on, I heard a similar sound though not quite as loud. That actually happened moving straight, slowly out the tire place parking lot. The mechanic said something along the lines of he forgot to decompress the calipers I think? Anyway I think he just bent the shield back on that one side, and that solved it.
I've looked at the shields and see wear lines that have to be from the rotor, since its a perfect curve that would go along with the size of the rotors.
Any idea what might be causing this. I've tried beating the sheild a couple times now.
Thanks for any help

take the hub off and remove the dust shield or just cut it off, you dont need it.

what other suspension/steering mods have you done within the same timeframe you started experiencing this "grinding"?

Was the mechanic putting new pads on? You only mention him putting wheels on.

Well the car was lowered and still is on agx's with espelir springs. I never had any noise when it was just the springs. Then I had that short term rubbing on the drivers side when he mounted my wheels, but I think bending the shield solved that. That was back in august. Now since about mid oct I get a heavy grind when I have the wheel at about full lock. One day I turned the wheel parked to full lock, got out and looked. The shield was pretty close to the shield, but it seems the car has to be moving for it to make contact.
I was thinking about just cutting it off, since I have abs anything I need to be careful with.
Thanks alot for all the help guys

take the wheels off and look. metal on metal scraping is going to leave some sort of sign. If its the shield, bend it or remove it. If it is something else find the problem and repair.

Anything from the road could have kicked up and bent it. Remove them, or bend them back out.

Yeah just funny how they both at started off doing it, but I think I tampered with one side enough to quiet it down somewhat, but the passenger side is just retarded sounding lol.
Gonna take the wheels off some time hopefully this week end. Only 2 more things I think could be rubbing. One the struts, and if so the red paint on the agx's should be scratched. Or 2 the wheel it self. When he first mounted them he thought I was gonna need spacers to clear the struts, but some how he made it worked. I haven't had any noise till now, so I'm sticking with the theory its the dust shields.

Alright calm down, I was just trying to get opinions to see if anyone thought it might be something else. I 9/10 I'm driving the car before I go to work, and by the time I get off work its night and its cold. So like I said when I get a chance.
I was trying to get an idea of things to look over this weekend, before my week at works starts again and so I don't sit around wasting time on the weekend fixing something that might not even be the problem.
Anywy like I said thanks for those who helped

depending on the wheel u can just get a long screwdriver and push the duskshield back, no need to take off the wheel in some cases

Take the shield off or cut it. If the sound is still there then its something else! So easy a caveman can do it! :) GL

Yeah you don't have to guess, I'll say it, I'm directing it to you. And no I'm not crying, so you can save that boo hoo crap. You seem like the baby to me complaining over a thread you didn't even have to reply too. No one held a gun to your head and said read and or reply to my thread. So why don't you go try to get attention somewhere else.
Also its not rocket science if you don't want to add to the length of time this thread stays current, then stop posting in it. Furthermore I don't feel the need to post until I address the issue stated in the title....unless you wanna drag this on.
