Will an sr lower harness (tranny/alternator) work on a ka? I know it's an odd question but I need the harness and I might be able to get my hands on an sr harness, but I want to make sure it'll work first. Also, any features or defining characteristics that would make it stand out from a ka harness?
thanks in advance!

IIRC They are verify similar and are compatable I did a 5 speed swap on a KA24DE with an SR20DET black top and I believe we used a KA lower harness on a SR20DET transmission and it worked fine, it was a long time ago sorry my memory does not recall specifics but it shoudl work fine for you.

Sweet man, thanks for the info.

Well you can, but KAs got more sensors than the SR iirc. Atleast that was the thing for my S14 with a S13 blacktop.

ORLY? do you happen to remember which sensors? As long as it isn't anything important, or that'll throw a code I should be fine...

SRs only use 3 sensors, my KA had atleast 4, maybe even 5 sensors. I just tied off the extra plugs from the KA harness and left them alone unplugged.
Doing it the other way around, come to think of it, it might not work. I think one of them is for the 5th gear sensor.

might not work, or might work now? Not trying to mess with your grammar, it could just mean a couple of things, and I don't wanna assume. Cause you know what they say... when you assume, you make an ass outta you en' me

The KA has a 5th gear position sensor. My SR didn't have one. The KA also has Crankshaft Position Sensor and a rear O2 sensor that the SR does not have I think. I'm trying to remember what else cuz I just did the damn swap...

What year KA? Again, I had an OBD-II S14. DoriftoPnoy just pointed out the other sensor for me, I had a crankshaft position sensor on top of the bellhousing too. Then again, that shiet has been cracked on my car and it threw a CEL 3 yrs before I even did the swap.
In all honesty, go look for a KA lower harness, cuz if you use the SR lower harness, you need the SR sensors cuz not all the plugs will match up. Thats why I used my KA harness and swapped over the KA sensors.

If this is a KA24DE S13 chassis and your putting and S13 SR20DET lower harness it'll work I know it will. I just wish I would have document little tid bits about it, damn.

Oh trust me I'm lookin hardcore for a Ka lower harness, but friggin nobody has one, you can check my wtb. thread. I was just looking for a glimmer of hope.. I bought this shell, and tracking down parts has been a bitch and a half. Oh, and it's a 95'

Oh, and it's a 95'you cant use the sr harness, the plugs are all different... i've tried s13 & s14 sr tranny harnesses and neither had matching plugs. go buy one from courtesy, its expensive but better than wasting hours searching for one. actually pm R240NA he might have one.

Ha, you guys rule. I don't have any though.
For the transmission stuff, all you need is the VSS, in an S14 chassis you'd need an S14 KA or SR lower harness, the wires are red and red/yellow and plug directly into the sensor. The S13 harness has the shorter section since the S13 VSS has a two foot lead on it.
The rest of the stuff, starter and alternator can be adapted easily. The OPS plugs right in but it should be thrown away anyway.

the sr harness doesnt work, i've tried 2 and they dont plug into the plugs near the engine fuse box.

Thanks boostingst for the update, I'll just bide my time and wait for a manual tranny harness to come along... Hopefully soon!
