ok my knock sensor is screwd up it think this because the check engine light keeps lighting (everyday) and when i read the ecu codes, &nbsp;<img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/whatsthat.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':whatthe:'> it says it was the knock sensor (code 43?). anyway i have no idea what to do. as far as i know, my gas is being burned VERY VERY fast and the car isnt as fast as it was. how hard would it be to fix this problem and has anyone ever done it? if you know something i dont.. please post it. thanks <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/hehe.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':hehe:'> its driving me nuts <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/hehe.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':hehe:'>

I did it last week. &nbsp;Improved performance, does not affect gas milage. &nbsp; It only retards the timing. &nbsp; As for the check engine light, it never lit up.

The error code is 34.

Here is an 'how-to' i posted on another board. &nbsp; It is quite hard to do. &nbsp;I had many problems, because it's very hard to reach to.

Here is how I did it:
1. Make sure you engine is COLD!
2. Remove fuel lines.
3. With a long extension on a rachet (sp?), localise knock sensor and unbolt. (Easier to write than to do)
4. Do not pull on wire! If you did, goto step 7.
5. Try do remove the knock sensor from the wire from inside the intake manifold. If you can't go to step 6. If you did, do not follow these instructions, you are God.
6. Pull on wire from front of the intake manifold.
7. Remove knock sensor.
8. Install new knock sensor.
9. Try to push the wire the way it was.
10. Curse because you can't.
11. Break wire because knock sensor was stuck.
12. Drive around.
13. Pick up knock sensor on the floor.
14. Weld a new wire to the wire.
15. Try to bolt back the knock sensor.
16. Curse some more.
17. Realise that the bolt doesn't fit anymore.
18. Curse again.
19. On a wild engineer idea, start your engine believing that warm metal is soft.
20. Once engine is warm stop it.
21. Without burning yourself on the intake manifold, try to bolt the knock sensor into place.
22. Praise God that it works!
23. Replace fuel lines.
24. Close hood.
25. Reset ECU error codes.
26. Test drive.
27. Check ECU error codes.

Here is a more serious how-to link:
<a href="http://www.240sx.org/faq/articles/knock_sensor.htm" target='_blank'>http://www.240sx.org/faq/articles/knock_sensor.htm</a>

Keep in mind that the knock sensor is a very sensitive part and it is quite expensive at the dealership.

For s14, not sure about s13's: &nbsp; When you get the CEL for knock sensor, it means there may be a problem w/ the sensor OR the connection to it. &nbsp;I got the code, then it went away. &nbsp;Bad connection - not the sensor. &nbsp; Also, when you get the code for the knock sensor, the car doesn't run any different. &nbsp; It is a sensor about a sensor - not a sensor about a problem.

ok the "check engine" light goes on and off and sometimes stays on for a long time. sometimes it stay on until i ease off the accelerator and or stop. you think its the connections or the sensor itslef? hmmm $172 for a new one... and its sensetive you say? fcuk. <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/eh.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':eh:'>

First off, that's 172$ CANADIAN... After conversion 110$US would be more close.

Second, I did notice a huge improvement when changing the sensor. &nbsp; The sensor detects pinging from your engine and the ECU adjusts the timing accordindly by retard it in order not to damage the engine. &nbsp; Now, if this sensor is malfunctioning, wouldn't Nissan engineers be a little stupid to keep the timing where it is or would they follow safe procedures and retard timing to a safe level? &nbsp;I'm in the process of becoming and engineer, and everything I learnt that when some sensor goes wrong, you shut down the system or you bring it to a safe mode. &nbsp; My guess would be that the ECU retards the timing if the knock sensor is at defect.
