This is the story of baby Natalie. A beautiful little girl, born to none other than our very own fromxtor, also known as Josh, and his beautiful wife, Nicole. Little Natalie was born on April 13th, at 4:17am, weighing 7lbs 4oz. and was 19 3/4" long.
From the moment she was born, little Natalie was rushed into the NICU in critical condition. After a lot of consulting and talking with the Neurologist, they learned that precious little Natalie had severe brain damage to the hypothalamus.

Now, I know a lot of you are wondering WHY this thread is here. Why is this in the Chat section? Plain and simple, it is zilvia family. We are not asking that you contribute in any way, this is being done because Zilvia would like to see that this little girl gets a little head start in life. Nicole was active duty and was forced to separate early to care for baby Natalie. With the holidays coming up, they are pretty tight for cash with all of the hospital bills, and specialists needed to keep this little girl as healthy as she can be.
With that said, YES, there are hundreds of babies out there that are sick. This baby is here, and a part of our family and community. Someone that we all have dealt with at some point in our ventures through Zilvia. That is why we are choosing to try to help raise funds for this particular little angel.
If you would like to help baby Natalie and her family have a little easier time this Christmas, whether you believe in it or not, please send a little something to the family via paypal :
[email protected]
This is strictly voluntary, but would be a great gesture, not to a fellow man, but to a little baby girl that would love to have a great holiday season with her family.
Thanks for reading.

Such a sad story, as soon as I have the ability to use paypal again, I am sending some money that way. I hope that she has a great holiday season, some of us don't really know what we have until you read something like this. My heart goes out to the family, and anyone else who has a sibling or knows someone that suffers like this.

Why would she want to get out of the military? Not trying to be an asshole. I know most of the staff at the NICU there on CP Lester.
Now, just a little military 411 for all of you.
If a service member's child is born in a military hospital, with a debilitating disease such as CP, the US govmt will cover the costs of LONG TERM medical care including any major operations and medicine FOR THE REST OF THE CHILD'S LIFE. What they will NOT cover is food and lodging (hence Lisa's request for donations).
Additionally, the parents now qualify for many state funded benefits and have access to places to stay like the Fisher house.
The parents still pay a lot out of pocket but the US govmt is covering much more of that cost.
With that being said, I have donated a bit I saved up for my turbo project to the aforementioned parents. I know what its like to have family issues come up while you serve (I'm ARMY btw). Money comes and goes folks, but some things are more important than cars, especially this time of year.

Thank you Lisa and Kevin for going out on a limb for a fellow military member. Thanks to all my fellow Zilvians for taking time to even just stop and read this, I want everyone to know that you DO NOT have to send money if you just want to send a card or something like that PM me and I'll give you my adress. I also understand that soem of you all don't make a bunch of money or are in collage and only work part time. So if you do decide to give, please do so within your means.
For those asking for more pics, I will be unleashing the fury here shortly.:D
Again thank you everyone for your kind words/thoughts and donations if you feel so inclined to do so. I hope to be able to give back in any way I can. :bigok:
Natalie was born in the local hospital here in Goldsboro, NC, and had to be flown via helicopter that same day to Greenville. I felt really bad for Nicole having to spend the night in the hospital in recovery w/o being able to visit her daughter. We then continued to visit her at PCMH daily for 3 months while she was there.
We are currently trying to get into several state/gov't programs but they aren't as easy to get into as your would think.

There are other costs that the military is not covering right now. The father is active duty, and Nat needed someone to care for her 24/7. I know that the military and tricare only pay for parts of it. There is a lawsuit going on right now trying to get the govt to pay as you have stated(not with this family, another). It is a hard thing, and I know you weren't trying to be an ass. Just a lot of factors in it.
I know that Josh and his family appreciate just the thought and the time you all have given to just read this thread.

you Josh. You need some sleep man. You baby girl is gonna need you much longer then right now. Power nap it if you can. Sleep deprivation/stressed sleep, is gonna comeback big later on. I co-owner 2 daycare centers and I know how ancy and stressed you get when kids aren't tip top. I will see if I can shorten up your story and print it out to be passed around my congregation. I'm not sure if funds will come about but I hope many prayers will be said. Godspeed on the care and strength of you and your family.

Thanks guys, it's tough from every aspect. For example the part of her brain that controls her body temp is damaged so sometimes(like tonight) it seems like she has a fever or is sick when in fact its just an irregularly high body temp(thank God). Going from two active duty paychecks to one is hard also, but w/ you all helping out and me about to get a second job we may make it. :D
You're a true inspiration.

There have been some really great things going on in the world with cp cures. Especially with some neuro acupuncture treatments. I'm not sure if there's fda approved but that's always an option.
She's so adorable! Have any new pics of her?
How severe did the doctors say she was or is it kind of a wait and see thing?

UPDATES:
GOOD NEWS:
We spoke to our case manager at our insurance company, and found out we are way under our cap for nursing care. So they are going to be upping it from 40 hours a week to 70, which means I wont have to play nurse and stay up all night friday and saturday nights. And that Nicole and I will be able to spend more time togather, and actually get to go out to eat which we have only done once since july.
A member of both Zilvia and carolinanissans is looking to have a benefit track day for Natalie, which I hope has a good turn out and helps all of us to get to know each other better.
BAD NEWS:
Natalie continues to have respiratory issues, and struggles to keep her blood oxygen saturation at a healthy level. Recent blood tests have shown her carbon dioxide level which should be around 24 is in the mid to high 30s, and even though her body has been compensating our pulmonologist had "the talk" w/ us yesterday.
Basically it's come down to whether we want to give her a trachestomy and admit her to the hospital for basically the remainder of her life, on a ventilator. Or just keep her as comfortable as possible at home and do the best we can to make sure however long she has left is w/o pain and suffering.
For those who didn't catch that, we can either make sure she lives as long as possble by medical intervention, drugs, constant blood tests x-rays etc. Or just spend as much time as we can w/ her making sure she has a comfortable happy(as much as it can be) life until she passes away.

^ I may have posted this on CN, but everytime I read this thread I think the same thought over and over.
Everyday at work when I take my round through NICU I see most of the same little faces I saw the day before, I never know each ones story, but knowing what all you've gone through makes it that more real everytime. I myself have never had a child, but I can only imagine what loving a child that's your own is like. A love like that isn't meant to be taken away as soon as there is potential for here in your case.
I love you guys, and hope and pray that this is as easy on your nerves as possible, even though it's probbly far from possible.
I just remembered that you mentioned to me on the phone a while back that you guys might be re-locating to Georgia, is that still going to happen?
2ilvia
04-25-2008, 07:25 PM
personally i would spend as much time with her as possible, if she leaves this life, she'll be waiting for you in the next...
otherwise its just going to be painful for you and her if she lives in a hospital the rest of her life

Matt, 2ilvia thanks for your kind comments, we do cherish everyday we spend w/ her. And to think we weren't sure she was even going to make it her first week alive. We are very thankful to God she is still w/ us and hope she stays w/ us as long as she can hang in there.
Matt give me a call, billeting is super cheap here or you can stay in the spare room and you are welcome to come and wrench, cook out etc anytime. We will be moving to GA in late Oct early Nov.

I'm sorry this update has been awhile coming, Natalie up till yesterday was doing pretty decent. Some of her teeth have been coming in and shes been a little fussy because of it. She now weighs 23 lbs and is 33" long, and has alot of hair.
BAD NEWS
Yesterday her blood oxygen monitor was reading kind of low for her, so we took her into the pediatrician. After a white blood cell count of 40000, they gave her a chest x-ray. Turns out her whole left lung is filled with fluid(pneumonia), and she is now only able to use her right one which was already damaged due to it collapsing shortly after birth. They wanted to admit her to the hospital right away, but with the possibility of her not pulling out of this we have decided to have her at home. She received a shot of antibiotics yesterday evening and we hope to hear good news at our 6:00 pm appointment today. Those who pray, please do so for Nicole, Natalie and myself. Thank you

My blessings are with you man.
My gf's mom had a child a few years back and she was diagnosed with Edwards Syndrome.
Edwards syndrome - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edwards_syndrome)
In a nutshell, vital organs such as the heart, liver and often muscles don't develop properly, adding to a lower percent of survival.
She's still growing strong after 25 months.
Here she is posing for the camera. Funny thing is the glasses were from a build a bear her brother made for her. Sharing clothing with a bear = win!

As we have seen in the history of man kind, we join together and wish the best for the ones that need it most and you sir are a father to a beautiful child. Update:
OGs around here remember this as it happened. I have personally met with Josh, Nicole and Natalie a few times through the years at Carolina Nissans meets and the NC Zoo...
As much as I see people as screen names and forum members, Josh is also a good friend.
It pains me to update this thread with this information, and I am only doing so with his permission, but Josh posted on FB this morning that Natalie has passed away on the 12th.
I am asking for thoughts, prayers or whatever it is you believe in for him and his family as they deal with this.
Also, if you should happen to have it on your hearts, donations can be sent to PayPal at

Really hate hearing this news!!! I remember when she was born and seeing this thread pop up. I don't know the parents personally but I wish them all the best in these very trying times!

That's terrible to hear. As a parent, I can't even imagine what they're going through...
