Gas Hits Five Dollars a Gallon In California, The End Times Draw Ever More Near

Although AAA of California is reporting some drivers are now paying $4 a gallon for regular unleaded gasoline, local Cali station KSBW found gas stations in Gorda, south of Big Sur, currently charging $5 per gallon for gas. While that's obviously an isolated occurrence, the average price is getting pretty high up the cost meter. For instance in Salinas, AAA recorded an average of $3.39 per gallon. Santa Cruz is at an average of $3.37 per gallon. Yes, the gas prices in California are always higher than elsewhere in the country, but this is getting ridiculous. Something must be done! Oh, Toyota -- please come and save us. If they only could get every individual in the United States to drive a Prius -- then all we'd have to worry about is cows farting. Also, we'd be living in a fantasy. (Hat tip to SwatLax!) [via KSBW]

just filled up this morning for $2.78/gallon. gas was like 3.30 a couple years ago, why is this news? actually, it almost got up to 4/gallon for a little while around here, if i recall correctly. at any rate... we still haven't passed the energy crisis prices of the early 80's. quit your bitching, it could get a LOT worse.

Yeah but you guys have legal skylines and other cars that aren't allowed here and there is no speed limit.
not to mention your euro is much stronger than our dollar. Where your euro value is still improving and our dollar has lost over 30% since 2000.
It's getting better for you and it's getting worst for us.

i dont think so, in germany are just around 20 skylines registred, who drives a rhd in a lhd contry? and who wants to pay 70000 dollar for an used gtr?

what does the good value bring me? i buy a part from us for 500$, shipp it for 300 and pay then 25% from the price + shipping to germany...

so i buy for 500 and pay at the end easy 1000$, just for example

i dont even pay attention to gas prices anymore... but i have noticed i've been driving a whole lot less. heh.

everything is more expensive here. what's new?

In April of 2006 we reported that there were 330 detached homes listed for sale in Irvine, with a Median price of $999,900 The lowest priced detached home for sale is a 2 bedroom, 2 bath, 950 Square foot patio home on Orchard street and is priced at $499,098.

Today, there are 51 - 1 Bedroom Condos currently listed for sale in Irvine, Ca. These condos range in price from $255,000 for a 475 square foot condo on Streamwood in the Irvine Springs community of Northwood, on up to $729,000 for a 1 bedroom, 1.5 bath, 1,335 square foot high rise condo

SOURCE: http://www.ocrealestateblog.com/

1 bedroom. 1.5 bath. 730,000 dollars. seeing how california has the 7th largest economy in the world, it seems only fair (to others) that we pay more for stuff. do i agree? i dont know. i dont really feel like thinking about it right now.

sure, there's broke people here who cant afford 5 bucks... but i dont know.. it is what it is, i guess.

right now i live in a 2 bed 2 bath townhouse. rent = 2700 a month. my neighbor is Quinton "Rampage" Jackson. I'd figure he'd be pretty loaded and live in some huge house on the hill. nope, his pad is smaller than mine, but probably more expensive bc it's detached...

i dont even know what im talking about anymore...

5 bucks. meh. whatev.

I guess htis was a bad time to move to SoCal? Haha...

Anyway, I'm actually from Alaska, and there was (well is...) a really big controversy about whether or not to drill ANWR (Alaska National Wildlife Reserve) but what I'm hearing is that the main reason(not the only reason) why they haven't tapped into the oil there is because 80% of it is actually in Canada... But who knows, maybe if we get desperate enough we'll start construction on the new pipeline... I know if they get any higher, I'm going to brave a motorcycle in SoCal traffic...

I just rebuilt my wifes 96 Sentra for us to use as a beater car, every day driver, etc. I believe a good way to go for a lot of people here is Nissan's GA16DE. That is a fucking awesome engine for the money. They're dirt cheap and get around 35mpg on the highway. It's cheaper than anything from Honda and accomplishes the same thing. Of course, I'm a Nissan/Mazda fanboy, so my opinion may be a little biased.

i guess you kinda hafta consider where gorda is tho. its in the middle of nowhere. about an hour north and south of the nearest gas stations. they pretty much have a monopoly on gas in that area. if you've ever driven the 1 from morro bay to santa cruz or monterey, you know what i mean. once you get past san simeon there is NO gas stations till you get to big sur. and the station in gorda, every time i've ever gone through, is about 75cents to a dollar more per gallon than san luis obispo (where i'm originally from. slo is usually about 25-30 cents more on avg. then la/socal prices). yes gas is expensive. yes we should all buy more fuel efficient cars. this is why i drive a paseo as my dd. it gets 36 mpg avg. and looks like ass. /rant.
