View Full Version : Future plans, ideas.
Hey!
I've been thinking of selling my 240sx. I wanted to do some unique project, but I need the opinions of others to see if it's feasable.
I thought of buying a 1994 S13 Convertible, swap SR and SR manual tranny and give it a full Silvia front end. Now, I know that the convertible is softer, doesn't handle as good. I need some answers on the following questions.
1. Are suspension parts for s13 convertible different? (I know eibach springs don't fit convertibles)
2. Is there anyways to stiffen up the chassis so I can get decent handling or handling similar to my 240SX hatch?
3. Would tranny swap be possible? I want to be sure that urban legends concerning tranny swap being impossible are only legends.
4. Do any of you have pictures of s13 convertible with Silvia front end? I just found 1 picture on the net.

supposedly the springs fit the convertible fine, just the weight of the convertible is different so they aren't specifically tuned to the way the convertible's weight is distributed.

My guess is that the front STB will be fine... the rear i'm not so sure as the top most likely goes where a rear STB would.. (although, i'm not sure). If in doubt you can always get a rear ladder bar and possibly a rear cross bar (or a custom roll cage ) to complete some stiffening of the chassis.

I'm guessing the tranny should swap just fine. IIRC, the tranny is the same as all other DOHC S13's. If you're in any doubt, www.heavythrottle.com has already done a full SR swap into a convertible, and i'm fairly sure they used the 5-speed tranny.

That's what I thought originally. For handling, I thought of getting some *good* coilovers, front and rear STB and Sway bars and in worst case scenario, ladder bars.
Here is the only pic I found on the net. It looks pretty nice. I always was a fan of a convertible car. A convertible Silvia would be heaven.

hmmm.. this convertible is much, much nicer, no ugly body kit and no huuuuuuge wheels... just an aero bumper and R32 wheels.. much more tasteful.
