We'll we've been discussing this in the RWD thread forever. No engine choices have been revealed yet. It could be anything from a turbo 4, turbo 6, or a maybe a V8 since it's on the same platform as the new Genesis.

I don't like it. I was really hopeing I would, but right now I don't. I can't stand the kink in teh lower part of the window behind the B-Pillar mostly.

I do see a little Cayman in the rear though. Front just doesn't do it for me. I was hoping for more of an updated Tibby look.

Guess I'll have to wait and see what Nissan answers with...

according to some sources I have that SHOULD know, the US spec version will come with both V8 and V6 NA versions, the I4 turbo version will not be available stateside at this time.

I'd assume that to be the case. Us American's love big displacement NA engines...:ugh: At least that's what the manufacturers excuse is for not giving us FI engines. :-/

According to the guy who took those pics:

From Autoblog
New Tiburon Forum member anthony718 just posted some pics of the new Hyundai Coupe totally undisguised. Saying he got the pics from "a friend," he details how the photos came from a market research event back in June. According to the info given, the Coupe would have two engine options, a 2.0L turbo with 215HP and 217 ft-lbs of torque, or a 3.8LV6 with 300HP and 280 ft-lbs. Prices were given as $19,900 for the 4 or $25,900 for the V6. While we have good reason to believe there will be a genuine V8 in the engine bay when we see the car in LA next week, this event was held back in June and changes could have been made since that time.

Hyundai is pitching this new Genesis Coupe as a Mustang fighter, so it's no surprise to see the Coupe sitting next to the Ford in these photos. We've discussed this 2009 model Hyundai quite a bit and now that we have some clear pics, it really looks like it's been worth the wait. Attractive in an Accord or G37 Coupe kind of way, the RWD Korean should make a splash in the sports/GT market when it reaches dealers next year. The looks and specs seem to indicate a worthy competitor, with rumored features like iPod integration in the center console, Bluetooth with the stock head deck, a sunroof, limited slip and possibly even a Brembo brake upgrade. We'll have more details about the car after we see it at the LA Auto Show, but for now, check out the best pics in our gallery below or click here to view all 36 pics on photobucket.

VROOOM

it might make sense to you because your an enthusiast.but people sue over anything now a days. a company not putting safety equipment on their cars is like asking someone to sue you. also just think you are driving your girlfiriend somewhere and your car gets hit and your girlfriend is seriously injured. she decides to sue nissan because she never signed a form releasing her.

the waiver could easily be worded to cover the company's ass, and make it your problem. and, of course, you'd have significantly higher insurance if your car came without airbags. the tradeoff would be huge, but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be an option. airbags don't save lives. sturdy frames and seatbelts are where it's at.

Ok so what if you sell the car? The person who buys it didnt sign the waiver. and it will be a problem to keep up with who signed a waiver and who diddnt a giant extra problem that slows down production they have to put 2 different kinds of wheels and dash boards in the car. Not cost effective at all. Plus Im pretty sure DOT requires airbags in all cars 1995 and newer. I think the only way a company would do that if they made special track versions of the car for offrad use only

In two years, these will be all over the drift scene/circuits. Now everyone can be a drift master for a low monthly payment and with full warranty.

You know, now that they are saying the production version won't be shown until late March in New York makes me think we could see some changes to the more bland production looking car posted on the first page. Think about it, the reason they show a concept like this is to get reaction on the car, obviously as a whole, but also on some of the styling cues. They could easily offer a sport package that has more aggressive aero options that look more like the concept, ie deeper front fascia, ss, rear diffuser.

yeah the GT-R was supposed to come out in 07 and what they had was no where near close to the production model. SOLID INFO ON THE PRODUCTION MODEL! I highlighted the main points.

From Autoblog:

Compared to spy shots of the production coupe that were unearthed earlier this month (above), the concept is a dead ringer for what we'll supposedly see in New York next year. The tapering rear window aft of the B-pillar looks ready for prime time, as does the overall shape of the greenhouse and the dual beltlines flowing from the front fenders and defining the rear haunches. Stylistically, we think it's a hit and can only get better with what Hyundai has in store after the production version goes on sale in late 2008.

Beyond the exterior styling, we're more interested in how this new coupe will compete in the performance arena. It's been confirmed that two engines will be available: a 3.8-liter V6 producing 300 HP and "around" 260 lb.-ft. of torque (250 lb.-ft. is quoted in the press release, but we heard more) and a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four. While the Hyundai execs we talked to remained mum on the specific output of both mills, we're assured that the turbo'd four will be producing over 200 HP and a similar amount of torque, likely in the 210-220 lb.-ft. neighborhood. When we asked about the overall weight and how it would be distributed, it was made clear that keeping the pounds down and trying to achieve a 50/50 weight balance was of particular importance. Naturally, the engine's placement underneath the hood will dictate how much weight will be sitting atop the nose, but with a bonnet that long, we'd suspect that both mills could be placed pretty far into the engine bay – hopefully behind the strut towers. Continuously variable valve timing will be part of the dual overhead cam package, and power will be sent to either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic 'box controllable via steering wheel-mounted paddles. Since the turbocharged inline four will have the added advantages of weighing less and the required exhaust plumbing in place for the turbo, we think that the base model might be the darling of the aftermarket; it certainly won't be left out in the cold like other entry-level offerings.

On the handling end of things, the wheelbase wasn't as long as we'd originally suspected, coming in at 2,820 mm (111 inches), or 115 mm (4.5 inches) less than the Genesis sedan on which its derived. For comparison, what some are calling the Hyundai coupe's closest competitor, the Ford Mustang, has a 2,720 mm wheelbase (107.1 inches). This is going to pay dividends in the driving department, as will the five-link rear suspension and front MacPherson setup. We mentioned earlier that the E46 BMW M3 was the benchmark for bending rigidity, and according to Hyundai's engineers, they've achieved that goal.

The real question remains at what price point the new Hyundai coupe will compete. Although the original leaked information said that the turbo'd four-pot will come in at $19,900, we have our doubts that Hyundai can keep it under the magical $20k ceiling. The V6-equipped model should land somewhere in the mid-$20,000s -- we'd suspect somewhere between $24,000 to $26,000. Regardless, anything with RWD and the choice of a stout V6 or a turbocharged four has our vote. Let's just hope it has the handling credentials to redefine a segment that has long been neglected by some of the stalwarts of the industry.

Look how many times the GT-R changed before the production model came out.

Two times...

- GTR Concept
- GTR Proto

and these changes were years apart....I doubt the production Hyundai will change drastically from the leaked photos.

I gotta correct the title

that is NOT the next tib, this is the genesis coupe

Found out they used the E46 M3 as a benchmark :)

HYUNDAI DRIFT TEAM?

Yes you read the headline correctly. This week during the launch of the LA Auto Show Hyundai revealed their "Concept Genesis Coupe." The Genesis Coupe is built on Hyundai's new RWD platform and will have an option of a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that is a derivative of Mitsubishi's "global" engine thats being used in the Evo X.

C16 has a very reliable source that tells us that Hyundai is already in talks with a certain top tier drift team about running a factory backed effort in Formula D in the 09 season, or even possibly the 08 season. The team in question is still currently unknown but we have our guesses as we're sure you do as well. The production version of the Genesis Coupe doesn't debut until the New York Auto Show so there is a possibility that the team would be using the test mule as their drift car and then making the switch to the production version once its released.

Sound weird? Well the reason this makes sense is because Hyundai has already built the production version of the Genesis coupe! In fact they built the production version before they built the concept! It is hidden away under lock and key at Hyundai's North American headquarters

Can't wait to see how this one plays out!

YESYESYESYES!

OK, OK, OK! Does that mean? Do you think? Could it be?

A new Starion could be a possibility?!!!???!!!

That also means the 4cyl turbo should be at LEAST 250hp!

Theyre using the same engine as the EVO X?!?! IM FUCKING SOLD THEN!!! But the biggest question will be, how much of the aftermarket parts for the EVO will work for the Tib. Then the biggest question is how will this chassis handle.

Any news on whether these cars are guranteed to be built? Curious is hyundai will build the genesis coupe, that looks good too. If it stays just like the way it is in the concept with the lip and everything, hell id pay $30k for that, cheaper than a G35 coupe but looks to match it.

I'm sure the aftermarket companies will only need to do some minor tweeking for a lot of the products. Plus, think about it, if it's in Formula D, it's gonna have a ton of aftermarket support.

For those of you who still think, "it's still a Hyundai", Toyota doesn't think so.

Toyota exec calls Hyundai "strong enemy"

You know you've arrived when your competitors not only begin acknowledging that you exist, but actually see you as a threat. Hyundai got to enjoy this distinct pleasure today when Toyota's chairman Fujio Cho told a group of Korean journalists that it was a "strong enemy". Not only has Hyundai completely transformed its image in North America from a slinger of bargain basement econo-boxes to a respected purveyor of reasonably priced, well built automobiles, but it's also going after emerging markets like China, Africa and the Middle East as hard as anyone else. Plus, Toyota has directly felt the sting of Hyundai's success, having been forced to rub elbows with the brand at the top of many recent J.D. Power and Associates reports. Still, calling Hyundai a 'strong enemy' is a bit harsh, no? How about "worthy adversary" or "respected competitor"? Toyota really drives home the point that the business of selling cars is like war and that no 'enemy' should be underestimated.

Thanks for the tip, catgirlshyla!

The concept is hollow (a "roller" in industry-speak)
It's got a dash, and seat headrests.
At the show, you could look up underneath the car and into the body shell.

It's Wheelbase will be 111 inches, with an overall length of 183.7", width of 74.9", height of 54.5". It will have a Limited slip differential, which is great for handling and drag launches. Brakes will be twin piston Brembo, with 13.4" rotors in the front and 13" in the rear. Wheels will be 20" five-spoke wrapped in Dunlop 255/35 tires in front and 275/35 in the rear

LSD and brembos?
excellant.

hyundais reputation isnt too bad in other countries, especially in korea. its just that they target the cheaper market here in the states, which leaves them at a disadvantage.
