That was a terrible description :p

... but does it make this sound only during braking or does it also do it when they are not applied? I ask because my car does something similar but it does it even when the brakes are not applied.

The difference in frequency of the sound is a result of your car speed, beyond that I can't really tell without further info.

edit: to better describe your sound- what kind of sound is it? metal grinding? something else?

Just change your brakes and if you know there is still alot of pad left maybe there is something in there. Ive seen small rocks in brake pads before or if they are cheap brakes then they probably just sucks and you need to take em back

i'll try to post a vid up tomorow of the sound

my brakes are only a coule months old i dont think it's because i need new brakes

and the sound only happens if i dont apply the brakes hard...

this might help...when i was installing my struts and springs i needed to use wd-40 to loosen up the bolts...

some of the wd-40 got onto the brakes and it didn't make noise for about 30 mins of driving but then it started again...

troubleshooting ideas?

There is probably something stuck in there or if you have autozone brakes they they are probably just defective and go get new ones

Mine screech, but it's because the shims are coming in contact with the rotor.

Maybe your hub bearing is bad?

Well if they're anything but stock replacements they'll probably squeel when cold. My project mu's do that when I first drive my car if I apply the brakes lightly, no big deal
