Ok, so I bought the car and airbag light was on. I pulled the airbag off to find out that the spiral cable piece with the wires had been cracked and the airbag was not plugged in. I got the new piece and plugged in the airbag. But the airbag light is still on.

I researched this issue and read:

Key on, depress driver side pin 7 times within 5 seconds to scan codes.
Same procedure to clear codes.
You could at least gotten off your lazy ass and searched."

Then I read:

"Resetting a blinking airbag light.

First of all, while this can be attributable to a bad air bag sensor, it's best to run this past a dealer first.

If you're certain it's not an airbag issue, and you simply want to reset the light (after servicing the airbags or dash)...

Open driver door
Get in
Shut door
Turn ignition to the on position (all the way, but not to start car)
Open door
Reach down with your left hand
Press the door ajar sensor button thing (7) times
Shut door
Start your car.....

This should reset the airbag lamp."

Then I read this:

"hey guys i wanted to add my .03 if you don't mind. i just reset my airbag light. you turn the key on, press the button 5 times within 7 seconds, then press it one more time after 7 seconds. this puts you in the mode where it gives your code, i.e. the series of blinks are intermittant and timed (you can look up these times and their meanings in the fsm). after that turn it off, turn it back on and do the 5 times before 7 thing and press it once more and the light should be gone. turn it on and off again, then your light should only be on for 5 seconds and should be gone for good. given that you fixed what was wrong and such."

Tried it, but I couldnt get it to clear. Which step is correct?

Is there something I am doing wrong. I pushed the door button very fast to try and it still wouldn't work. Do you have to time it right or something? Does the door open or closed matter?

I think I got it to go into diagnostics mode. After pushing the button 7 times the light blinked one long blink followed by two short blinks and then it repeated. This is as far as I got. I turned the key off and tried it again and the code did not clear. Any ideas guys?

Thanks,
Chris

the air bag sensor might be bad in the front of the car

Please don't post if you have no fucking clue what you're talking about. There is no sensor anywhere in the car except for inside the module, located underneath the rear seat.

To the OP- It's 7 times in 5 seconds, key on, door open (obviously). The codes are either 2, 3, 4, or 7 IIRC, but don't quote me on that. Doing it again will clear the codes, but if the light comes back on you have a faulty component.

R240NA, Thanks for the quick reply. One last question. You say:

"Doing it again will clear the codes." Well 'doing it again', does that mean turning the ignition off and starting over? Or do you just push the button 7 more times while it is still on.

Also, I have been searching a lot and I actually found a scanned page from the FSM if anybody is interested:

the light should turn off right after you finish the sequence. Remember that the airbag module under the rear seats may be bad meaning you need a new module or it may be that your passenger airbag is not connected or just not there. I got all the parts you need if you want your airbags to work again.

Correct, key off and then back on.

I have a Resistor from [email protected] in place of my airbag and a new clock spring from Russ.

I can't get the light to turn off. I've done the above said procedure but the light doesn't even blink when put into "diagnostic" mode. any tips/ideas?

did you check to make sure the pass airbag is good and that sensor under the rear seats is good? Ive heard that once the airbag module has detonated, you cant use it anymore. Russ should give a final answer on that.

My shit didn't explode. How do I test the one under the rear seat?

I had a similar problem with my airbag fix that came with my hub. I just jiggled it around and made sure it was in there tight. I also found better results only pushing the door button 5 times, turning off the car but not taking out the key and then pushing it 5 more times. I hope that helps?

Edit: I also made sure to watch the sequence in full at least once.

In diagnostics mode you should get a code from whatever piece is bad. If it's not going into diagnostics, the control unit itself may be bad. It's rare, but can happen. Nissan suggests to replace it when the bags deploy but I've done two cars without replacing it, they seemed to work fine.

Well the truth is.. the one under the seat wasn't plugged in. hahaha

but now it is. But now I can't get the damn light to stop flashing. I've tried resetting it 4 times now.

I can't get into diagnostic mode no matter what I try.

It just blinks constant.

I get in the car, close door. Turn key to on. Then I've tried both waiting for the light to start blinking and not.
open door, press button 7 times in 5 seconds. (also tried 5 times)

but the light just starts steady blinking again.

close door, still blinking, start car, still blinking.

WTF

Well if that wasnt plugged in, make sure your pass. is plugged in.

yeah, I'm sure that one is. The rear sensor wasn't plugged in cuz i unplugged it, but I never touched the one under the dash on the pass side.

You're doing it wrong fool. Do NOT close the door, ever. Open the door, leave it open. As SOON as the key is turned on, press the door switch 7 times in 5 seconds.
Anything else will not work, as you've found.

thanks Russ

This may sound odd....but did you disconnect the battery, then do the reset?

For some reason, I was able to clear the codes (after connecting new stuff)...only after I disconnected the battery for say 20mins, reconnected and tired again.

I'll do that too, just to say "yes"
