Okay, i searched and saw a couple of these threads like this, but i was wondering if I have a faulty BOV. Its a HKS SSQV BOV.
Was working fine for a couple of days til last night, on the high way, in 5th gear, speeding up just a little then, my car started to bog as if i have no gas.
Well today, i found out it was my BOV, like the valve is opening up while im tryin to build boost, thus making the engine bog. Is there a way to fix it out or is the bov faulty now?

I have never had this problem but did you try to tighten the adjustment screw so it takes
more boost to open the valve?

i adjusted the lock nut on the back yes, but read on the HKS site, saying that tightenin with shorten the stroke or whatever.

if its the HKS one make sure that locking pin was installed correctly to begin with.. if you didnt snap it in properly the first time it will leak..so double check that.. it happened to me..

Alright cool man, thanks a lot, will double check that, in some cases, it didnt seem a little loose to me to where i could turn it the whole BOV.
Will check that in a few minutes.

Yeah chech that lock ring may have come loose. If not then take that bitch apart, it maybe stuck open or soemthing. Other then that its time for a new one...

Yea just checked the snap ring and it was a little loose though, but i got it tightened down now. I remember before i wasnt able to turn the BOV, and i could, so i fastened it right and now i cant.
But still the engine bogs tryin to rev it past 2/5K

Did you try revving it with your face right up on the BOV to see if it functioning right? It sounds like it might be time for a new BOV bro...

i don't have a HKS, i have a turboXS and i know the piston needs lubing up every once in a while to keep it moving fine. Try some lithium grease and lube it up a bit.

Well, i do know, when i rev it and im lookin at it, the valve is already opening up thus makin the car bog i think. Isnt suppose to stay closed while building pressure?

Perhaps that could be it too.

what you mean plug it up?
I had the same problem for a while ago. I got a hks ssq came with the car. When I tried to bolt it, it made the same problems with yours. Then we take off it and car went normally.I guess broken valve.

Damn, well im going to clean up the maf a little bit, make sure there is no debri or what not in the sensor area as i've been running w/o filter for a couple of days lol.
If not, looks like i'll be shoppin for another bov. sigh..

What kind of probs did he have? Or were they pretty much the same?

Before you go buy another one take it apart and and see if it dirty and lube it up if it needs it. There might be blow by in there or something clogging up the piston...

Yes the BOV is suppose to stay closed until pressure is built and the TB is snapped closed.
If it is open while idle your engine will run rich cuz you have a giant vacume leak.

Yea im going to check it out to see whats up with the BOV, ima take it apart one last time and see if i can lube it up a little bit and then see what the results are.

The wear parts are plastic, plastic wears down and dies.
The SSQV is a POS.
Been saying that for... forever.
If you have a bigger turbo I will hook you up on a pwr bov.

Other wise, get the tial with the light spring for small turbo.

if you have an hks bov and it looks like this, reference to the screw sticking out of the back, not the vacuum barb

its FAKE,
cheap knock off never works right.

So whats the difference between that and the screw on the real one?

hks got rid of the adjustable screw in the back about 1 yr ago. The new design don't have it. If you have an authentic ssqv with the adjustable screw in the back, i would take it apart and check of parts are worned out.

oh yea just to clear things up, forgot to mention, i bought the BOV used from a friend, well new but used. He had it on hes TC, then blew the turbo seals.
And there was oil in the BOV, so im pretty sure that could of messed it up?`

you could get the nipple insert for the bov to make it reciculate
KnightRyderx2
11-07-2007, 08:00 PM
Here is the recirculation kit for the HKS SSQ
http://www.hksusa.com/products/?id=798
Its a kit that comes with the little pipe and you have to take off the outter part to put BOV to fit on then put the putter part back on and a rubber hose to feed the air back into the intake...

I dont even have that model of the ssqv. Totally pointless.

I changed the link above and it was really ment for legacy 927...
Anyways HKS only makes 2 BOV the one that looks like a horn, 2 versions of this one, and the other that is a stock replacment. The recirculation kit works for the new version, has the ridges on the back, as well as the older new version, all solid...

Well, got my friends BOV, and he already told me that it really couldnt hold boost anyway. Well, it does the same thing.
Guess i wont know till i get a brand new one and test it. Shit is pissin me off, cuz i cant rev or get in boost w/o it boggin.

yeah if its off the port thats directly under the throttle body/plate area that is not a good source of vacuum. try teeing into one of the ones on top of the throttle body then report back. i bet it works.

Actually, if you look at this picture, i do have it teed off at the top of the throttle body, still the same thing.

It will still fit. The new ssqv and the old ssqv have the same design as far as bov inserts and the recirc fitting
