View Full Version : Bleh... Need help with tire setup... 17x9

Searched got half the answer I wanted.
I have a S14 w/ Stance coils. I'm getting 4 FN 17x9 +20 wheels. Theses are coming from the deal from discount tires direct. 5zigen ran out of 17x8 so I going to run with 17x9 all round.
What's a good setup for DD and grip/autoX. I have drift spare for drifting. I also want to do a stagged setup if I can. I don't want to mess with the fenders to much. I'll be rolling them a bit so whatever really about that.
As far as my car setup is like -2 inch all around I think I'm still mess with the settings. Also my current camber is F:1.8 R:2.2 and 2.6 (yeah it's' weird).
This is what I'm looking at.
F:225/45 R:245/40
I know that's stretching the front but I want to try the Nitto INVO's. They only have to 2 sizes for 17's which is gay (225/45 and 245/40). The rears I'm going to be doing ST115 or ZE912 since there a cheap and have all the sizes I want (245/40 and 255/40).
Then again I can do the 245/40 all around. But then no stagger...
Or should I just say fuck it and get some different tires that have tire sizes and do something like F:235/45 R:245/40 or 255/40?
Also I have the choice of getting the FK452 but I'm getting a lot of mixed reviews about them. Mind you for the tires it's the rainy season over here or else I'd get the RT-615.
The INVO are looking really good other than that I've been reading that they have a "soft" sidewall. Other than that just good stuff.
The ST115 and the FK425 I am at a lost of which of these better. All I really care about is the grip in the dry and wet at the moment. Mostly dry.
Lil help?

BFG KDW 2s in 245/40/17. what do you think the "W" stands for? great in the dry and really good in the wet too.
or goodyear eagle F1 GS-D3, also excellent tires that are very good in the wet.

FK452s are pretty good in the rain.
BFG KDW2s are pretty rockin though.

Just go 245/40 all around, with the 452s. Or go down to 235/40 with 615 and be more cautious in the rain for a little more money.

I don't even know how to pick daily driver tires anymore. Tires start at RT615s and go up.
I don't recommend a stagger and I don't recommend running two different compounds on your daily. You said yourself that you have drift spares, so why the different rear tires? Do you light 'em up at every intersection? 245/40s all around fit easily on an S14 with +20 9s.
RT615s aren't bad in the rain as long as you keep decent tread depth on them and aren't stupid. I have a set of 235/40s on the 9s that are on my daily.
RE01-Rs are like RT615s with more wet weather capability and a higher price tag.
Invo, FK-452, and ST-115 are sporty tires. They are not, however, the best at anything and are more OE-replacements than upgrade tires.

i would go with ST115s. and i would run the same tire all around. STs are a FAR better compromise than the 912, which is far more of a daily driver tire. st, 912, 512, fk, all are fine in rain. hell, rts are really not that bad in the rain.
as for the front, i think you'll have issues running 245 all around with only 1.8 camber up front and no rolled fenders. on the other hand, up front i have 225/45, -3 degrees camber, rolled fender on a 9+15 and there's tons of room. i'd go ahead and roll the fenders. i did my shit with a hammer, torch and pipe. takes 15 minutes. looks fine.

+1 for 235/40/17 RT-615 are solid for DD on the 17x9
clears everything, fenders and suspension
Just a heads up, it seems some FK452s have some issues, not sure if you have to register to see thread (sorry if so):

why such a large tire?
on a 9...i run 235/40/17 and 245/40/17...but they're kinda tall
i like 215/45/17 and 225/45/17
215/40/17 in front if you want to go super low

235/40's all around are the best bet for daily. i personally run 225/45 all around on my car, and i rashed the shit out of my wheels. 235 gives some extra protection if you suck at driving like me. and if you're buying brand new tires for all 4 wheels, don't mix tires. same 4 all around.

Hmm.. Thanks for all of the opinions. I'm still looking into the sizes. Is a 245/40 that's tall?
As for the RT-615 are wet season as just started over here. If I didn't live in the hills and mountain I'd get them. But I'm aiming to get those or the RE-01r next.
I think I'm just going to do 245/40 with INVO in the front and ST115 in the rear. Also I get to try both of them out.
Unless people think ST115 all a around with 235/40 and 245/40 in the rear or just 235/40

Hehe. I don't think I'm going to stretch a tire. It's 235 at the min.

I'm running Advan AD07 245/40 on 17x9+15 with -2.4 deg camber, only had to roll the fenders up front. 235/40 in any tire cleared with out rubbing. I have some RE01R's waiting to go on next. The Advans were good in the rain too.

That's what I was thinking to my self. But I have a +20 wheel.
Grr... I wish discount tires direct had more tire choices... If they did I would get RE-01r.
Bleh I dunno what to do!! RT-615 are actually the same price of the INVO's.... So I could just get them and quit being a pussy and be a smart driver in the rain.
Or just go cheap this time around and get all ST115..

I run 245-40-17s all around on 17x9 +20s and love it... -2.5 degrees camber all around...
Bridgestone RE01-R tires...
When I decide to try drift, I'm just going to get a set of 215 or 225 Federal tires...

Definitely. Mr Chow, you said you wanted to autocross. The other tires are NOT autocross tires.

yeah yeah yeah... I order up the RT. I just have to drive slower in the rain.
I run 245-40-17s all around on 17x9 +20s and love it... -2.5 degrees camber all around...
Bridgestone RE01-R tires...

I just order 235/40 RT-615 and 245/40 ST115.
Yeah I'm going to try out the RE-01r and the RS2 after the fronts go.
When the rears go out I'll be going to fedies again. I have the other wheels for when I want to go just have fun or when its going to be a full day of drifting.
Thanks a lot everyone!
why not just get 17x9 in the front and 17x10 in the rear? fixes the problem right there
unless I am missing something
