so I'm driving to work today and I'm hearing a loud CLUNK everytime I hit a bump from the front right. I pull over, check everything, everything seems tight, so I keep going.

I get to work, and I use the cr*ppy stock jack, get the front right of the car up and feel around. Wheel isn't loose at all - 0 play. then I find that the spring on the coilover is loose. Furthermore - the top collar, one that I have never messed with is loose.

Is that supposed to happen? I didn't think that collar was supposed to move...

for reference, its not the one under the spring - the one over the spring. I think its okay to drive home as is - I will look at it when I get home, I'm sure I'll be surrounded by annoying trick or treating kids.. ugh.

I also think my suspension is effected by the infamous top mount problem that stance GR+ Pro coilovers have been having as per some thread I saw before. - I wonder if this is related?

I'm going to call stance and talk to them about the top mounts either later this week or early next week if I get a chance.

Oh and the car is an S14 if it matters at all.

Check the top nut to make sure it's tight. If the upper spring plate is most likely held in place by the upper strut pin (top threaded portion of the piston) and piston body. If the upper spring pech is loose (the part you arrowed to) then it's likely the top nut (which holds the perch to the plate) is also loose.

thanks for the answer I was looking for :bigok:

I will check that stuff tonite. In the mean time I did email stance about the top mount issue, hopefully they will help me out with that shortly.

yep the top nut was loose... had to tighten it up and then redo all the collars. Wasn't too bad.. 15 minutes. i'll call stance today and try to order new top mounts. They are alot stiffer than before now for some reason.

keep us updated on this as well. i have been following the other stance thread about the shitty pillowball mounts too. got my gr+ pros about a year ago and have had the shitty noises all along. seems to me that these coilovers were hyped way too much way too fast. wish i would have gone with cusco, tein or the tanabe 7s instead.
