Check your linkage....put the car in the air on jack stands and have somebody change gears SLOWLY. Sometimes your linkage might be kinked.

I would do the 5 speed swap I followed the threads posted here to do mine but keep in mind nobody mentioned that the starter bolts are different lengths the automatic is shorter and will never work (2 bolts 1/2 inch difference).

Check the linkage and adjust the inhibitor switch, but if it really is dead I've got four of them with your name on each.

from what i've heard, 240 auto trannys fail a lot. my frends doesnt shift gears any longer. this happened to my auto as well. it would go into R but nothing would happen. maybe if i pushed it a little, it would move an inch, but other then that nothing. also, sometimes when i floor it, the rpms would rev freely like im in Neutral and i dont go anywhere. i had to live with this for 2 months before i did my 5spd.

well good luck with ur problem.

The auto is actually a good unit, it's used in the NA Z32 with makes considerable more power. But, if you never change the filter or flush the fluid, you're bound to tear it up no matter how you drive it. Just like changing oil, never do it and expect a ton of carbon deposits and gunk to build up and jam up the valvetrain.
