I remember when I bought my s13, I drove It home. I got It for 350 dollars. The going rate for stock 240's was like 500 bucks. Now I want another, and these things are stock with like 200000 miles and dents out the ass, and people want 2500 for them? Blue book on one, in good cosmetic and mechanical shape is at most 1300 dollars. I love s13,s. Before drifting was cool. I dont knock drifting, its fun as hell. But damn overpriced for these cars. If I woulda seen this coming, I woulda bought like 20 s13's for ten grand, and waited to sell them till now.

Thats true. That reminds me of when I almost bought a 1984 ae86 in pretty good condition with like 80k miles cause I needed a daily. She wanted 500. I went and bought a teg for 2k instead. That would have been a great investment. Drove it for a while and turn around now and sell it for what like 3k? Isnt that what those things go for? Now to figure out what the next fad car will be. Fuck a job. Ill just buy a bunch of up and coming fad cars and sell em for the rest of my life.

Two months ago 91 180sx with 68,000kms for $7,200 CND + tax
$450 to fix 2 rust holes
$130 for ghetto daytime running lights and module
$free castrol syntec oil change.
$10 oem nx sr20det oil filter
oooh yeah with the availability of 180sx/silvia/skylines and other cars from japan the prices of 240sx have dropped signigicantly.
Before 89 cars could become legally brought here, but after the drift craze catched, rusty dented up stock 240s easily went for 10k, now slightly dinged up 240sx with sr's go for 3k.
what about my car im selling? yeah it needs a wash n a tune up like every used car you buy but yeah $2500 is that a rip?
also to add YES it runs and it ran great when i drove it. no heating problem, no engine problems, leaks oil, like all 240sx do, and some random electrical nuttin major in my opinion.

240sx prices are relative. It all depends on the popularity in your area. Socal prices have always been at a certain level. At first they sold below blue book. Though a good one was not cheap.
Then the market value dropped a bit but the blue blook value dropped as well. Average prices for a decent one have always been around 2500 for a 91 up. Used to be a 89-90 had a max value of $1500 even with low mileage.
Then they shot up. a Decent mileage 89-90 was around 2k and 91 ups were like 3k. Though at the same time a ceiling appeared for the low mileage 91 ups of around 3500. Before that a low mileage 91 up could cost as much as 4500-5k or something around 60-70k( circa 2001) Of course during all this time deals could be found sometimes on ones with around 120-130k .
Now we have every yahoo under the sun trying to sell his car for 3800 because some kid has told him its drift car and its cool so its work money.

Well.. I drove 12+ hours to Boca Raton, Florida, had my friend's truck break down on the way there... and the s14 I bought has more body damage than what was described... typical heat shield noise, a finnicky tach, and a few other small problems... I paid $2200 for it, so good deal I suppose for an SE with a 5 speed and fogs intact.

you guys got it good, bought a 95 s14 with front end collision for $2k back in March. well i got hooked up with parts, but the labor was hell. then fixed the front and new interior, and still in process of an ka24de engine swap cause the stupid guy that sold it to me didnt tell me the engine was blown. total so far without the engine swap is 3.7k. it has a salvage title. how much should i sell my car for after the swap, which is gonna cost another $5oo. give me some prices, i want to get back at least 4.5k for it cause i might head to japan to grab a 06 s15 or a 98 kouki with s15 front. need some help with the pricing. thanks guys

This "phenomena" in SoCal is helping me a little right now, though. Someone ran into my car, first damaging my door, and then moving on to the rear quarter. The estimates I got for fixing it are more than the car's supposedly worth, so it's getting totaled, and insurance only wants to give me $800 for it before buy back. But with the modifications I have, I've seen similar cars on craigslist go for $3500+ (coilovers, vlsd, big brakes)... So even though the car is supposedly only worth $800, to buy something similar to it would cost me over $3500 judging by how much they're going for within 50miles from residence...helping me get more money out of insurance. So it's a seller's market right now, but there's some good coming from it (at least for me).

Yea in the Midwest 240's are outrageous. I say fuck these guys up here trying to rape someone on price. I drive down South and get mine. First one I bought had 83k on it and I got it for $1500 in very nice shape. My current coupe I got for $1700. Tons of miles, but it's a relatively rare white coupe, no sunroof. Still, up here these same cars bring twice that much easily.
I remember a few years ago before F&F3 came out there was a discussion about if that movie or drifting would have a impact on the value of 240's. Everyone said it wouldn't. Well, guess they were wrong.

You can still get them cheap at auctions... good news for dealers. A white '96 went for $1400 with 120k on it the other day. I have no idea if it was auto or 5spd, or the condition of it though. Could have been a big POS. On the other hand, could have been a mint 5speed... I wasn't there to see it. Wish I was.

whats funny is i drove up to atlanta to buy my 240. the guy didnt tell me all this was wrong with it. he didnt mention it had been wrecked before, he also didnt mention that it had an after market ignition (which doesnt hold the key the whole time). he also didnt mention 2 wheel studs were striped, and he also didnt mention 3 of 16 wheel studs were broken. he also didnt care to mention the crack on the dash, or the stain the back seat. ive fixed everything, but ive put so much time and money into this car its almost not even worth selling. radiator blew up. altenator broke. timing chain snaped. leaks oil a small bit. exhuast had 4 holes in it. over hauled the motor. the radiator was bone dry when i bought the car... what an idiot. it looks good, but its been under the knife for a few weeks now and almost up to tip top shape. ill never buy a 240 before asking everything from dents, scratches, to wrecks about a car again.

It has everything to do with the rise in demand... there are a lot more people in the past few years who are buying them as a project car rather than a ratty daily driver and are willing to fork out the cash. The shitty condition shells that are going for so much are being targeted towards people who modify the 240sx.

lol he did an auto to 5 speed swap conversion is what he did. Most of time when we swap auto's to 5 speeds no one bothers wiring up the clutch lockout/neutral safety switch. The result is you can start your car without stepping on the clutch. Though I should remind you. Who in there right mind starts there car without stepping on the clutch anyways? See it used to be no cars had the clutch pedal lockout switch. So all manual cars could be started without stepping on the clutch. Then the car manufacturers realized there were some fools out there that would start there car without stepping on the clutch so they installed so the fools would not run into shit.
