View Full Version : were my expectations to high?
hi i just got my sr20det blacktop installed on to my 1989 240sx
Im not sure if i have a boost leak? or i just expected a lot more
i really havent ran the motor to hard just because i have a new clutch and i still need to replace the water pump, hasnt overheated but was told to run it on low rpm's until i replace the pump
but my question is that i feel the car pull at 3000 rpm's then at 4000rpms the car really doesnt move much and sometimes at 5000 it kicks in a little harder, does it kick in any harder after 5000rpms?
this is my first turbo car and i do realize it is way different then na motor,
and i really havent mastered driving it
all i have is an upgraded
fuel pump,
performance clutch from rpsport,
a rebuilt t25 stock turbo
and smic

Hard to tell by computer.
What was your last car? What are you comparing it too?
Your best bet might be putting it on a Dyno and checking power levels.
On a stock T25 you should be hitting full boost at around 2500 rpm. Also, do you have a boost controller or are you running at stock boost? Stock boost will only net 205hp, but compared to a Ford Escort it will really blow your skirt up.
well i had a sohc ka with an intake, and it doesnt feel that much faster
im probably just a bad driver.. lol

nah
probably need to freshen up your engine a bit.
make sure everything is working and set correctly.

I would say something is a little off with your motor. A buddy of mine went from a single cam to blacktop and it felt a lot faster. I would say take it somewhere to test the thing cause it will definitely be noticeable.

there definitely has to be something wrong.
are you using a boost controller or is your wastegate connected directly to a vacuum source?
get a boost gauge, autometer makes good gauges and they're cheap.
i just went through the swap and i could tell the power difference by revving the engine in my driveway.

^^ lol at feeling power of the essaarrr by revving the motor. You're running at least running 7psi, which should feel decently faster than ka, id suggest checking your timing.

This usually happens when, you don't do the swap yourself. jk no FR
you now have a tuner, you can modify it and see gains instantly but once you do this it will never, ever end
ill make sure to pick up a boost gauge this weekend
and check the timing
thank you for the advice

Well...you basically have a stock SR. So figure 205 minus drivetrain losses=maybe 170 to the wheels. If your in Cali and running the piss gas, maybe even less. Thats like RSX type S territory, or maybe even worse since those things are geared so aggressively. So figure 15+ seconds in the quarter mile.
Nowadays, a Camry V6 can do the quarter in the low 14s....time hasn't been good to the SR.
Buy a boost gauge. If anything, its a good tool to use for diagnoses of vacuum leaks or hardware discrepancies where your not boosting what you should. Also check for boost leaks.
i checked the timing and everything is good, i ran it pretty hard today and i must say it was pretty quick, third gear is pretty strong
the turbo does die at high end, understandable it is a small turbo
overall im happy, i think i was just expecting to much

It's just an SR... Now go buy some 280 cams and a t04R
