View Full Version : Puerto Rico Drift Scene
i was just wondering if anybody knows about the drift scene in PR because i might have to move out there soon. I've been there atleast once a year every year since i was born and i know they have so many touges that it boggles the mind. But the only thing involving drifting out there that i found searching google were a few Formula D exhibition videos back from like 2005 and a single road course in Carolina that they have drifting every monday from 5 to 7 pm(the course has a website but with no address for the track and no mention of there road course, pretty much drag is king). Also i found some forums but they look pretty much dead. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nGGKkDZSsgo <-- a video i found but judging from the other videos it seems there's like 8 people that go to these monday event. PLEASE SOMEONE ENLIGHTEN ME!!!

When I went there in 2004, I saw a few 240sx's fixed up. So it *does" exist, but Im not sure where/how strong.

Doesn't it look like they wet the track on purpose, lol!

if there is no scene then start it up man.
6 months ago we didnt have drift events here in utah.
now we have 1 or 2 events every month (during the season), more recently with 30-35 people showing up!
and next year im sure it will be bigger
good luck in PR, im sure itll be fun!
^^^ oh i plan too. Seems like the PR would be perfect because down in the southern part of the island ,where i'm going, the police are few and far between also with all the construction of new highways the mountain roads are being used less and less. I'll just have to avoid the cows and chupacabras hanging out in the mountains at night.lol. edit* i just put drifteando joking around into google and found this forum http://lafiebrepr.com/showthread.php?page=8&t=3779 weird starts off talking about initial D. track records turns into drift practice every monday and then demo runs back to intial d and then some guy saying he drifts his integra doing clutch kicks.:ugh:
Go to the mountains in the center of the island beautiful roads out there and theres not much traffic at the top, plenty of run off room.

Sounds like it should be cool over there.
I just hope the dudes over there aren't like the PR Ricers that run around over here in NY/NJ/MA

It looks like someone is using shock and spring combo, I would go to PR for the ladies, not the tracks...

yeah i'm from mass so it gets pretty annoying talking to like my cousins or something because as soon as i say anything about drifting they start talking about how the got vtec this ,jdm, that, and spend $2000 on like a sound system and paint and shit exhaust and say they did like 12's*BULLSHIT* oh rx-7's are tuned to perfection out there but find find one for less than 4g i dare you you'll never find it.

At least there is a high chance you will be the best drifter on the Island!

They probably wet the track because it's a cheap way to save money on tires. It's entirely possible that people in PR aren't rolling in cash to dump on their cars and are just out to have some fun with their buddies.

you sure you can't export? Everything is the same hell PR is like one vote from being a state. Also i'm 100% postive you could import cars because i had family that moved out there and sent there cars via Container Ship.

that's exactly what i was thinking... i would've done the same if i weren't working at a tireshop... wait... the sole reason why i'm working at a tireshop is because of this whole drifting thing...
after doing some more searching found this track...

videos of the track http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TVbf1JOPigY
I don't know kinda looks scary. from all the videos i've seen of these tracks and events i've yet to see roll cages or anything more than a helmet.:ugh: Doesn't seem right when there 8 cars running one behind the other.

hey
i actually live out here in puerto rico
im going to be really really honest about the scene i dont care if anyone gets mad with me...
the most popular thing here is DRAG you see insane drag cars here a bunch of fastest street car records and all that everybody around here runs at least 14 at the drag in crappy cars hahaha...
solo1 , gymkhana and circuit get theyre fame mostly from EVO and STI a few other cars...
the drift scene actually is just starting really, ive been practicing it for years but since no one wanted to help out starting it the people i got to knwo around the island just well we learned and got good just for fun, after it got attention everyone want to drift here... the problem is the people who started it and really in love with the sport more in love with the popularity... in each car show a bunch of PUERTO RICO DRIFT ASSOCIACION guys go and do drift shows they only do powerslides and waste about 40 tires each and just well to put it in a nice way just suck and they mod theyre KA to a bunch of good HP but no suspension mods or tires or anything... they think power is the only way to drift or E BRAKE they dont really get the art for the sport, some of them got it but dont practice it and almost nobody that actually races good goes to there reunions cause they think like theyre the best thing in the island and no one is better and so on and on... i know its getting started but it started the wrong way if you get my meaning...

cars are NOT CHEAP HERE... people are assholes
hachis arent hachis theyre 85 or 86 but sr5s and they sell from 1k to 3k around here in really bad conditions those who cost 800 arent really worth the trouble... 240sx go really damaged from 3k to 7k insanely high price i got mine a few years ago before the DRIFT BOOM here and i got it for 3k with some mods still high price but cheap here in puerto rico...
i also have a KIA SPORTAGE how much does that cost in the stated bout 19k something like that? it cost bou 30k here that how high prices go here u dont wanna know how much a 350z goes for here...

i actually live in ponce
i use to go to the track for drag night they used to open every monday for street racers no timeslips or anything just fun... but we had a problem with the owner which is and A**H*** and nobody goes there anymore... the other drags strips are at salinas which is expensive and mostly only drag cars go there... in CAROLINA we have a really crappy one which most people never go cause you dont get traccion or anything and its really far away... theyre are about 2 or 3 more 1/8 mile runs but not much... circuit tracks are a few but theyre really fun at least some tight curves and high speed straights... not much if ur used to big courses...
if you have any question or anything just ask ill answer and if u move over here need any help getting into any scene drag drift circuit or anything contact me ill try to help ya out with whatever i can...
in case u wanna ask i dont drag just go sometimes with my car to have some fun with friends, dont have really cash to race solo 1 or circuit and from times to times drift but dont have much place to do it i dont race in the streets... i touge mostly with friends... mostly conservative to not put any one in danger but sometimes really good runs cause we go to like touge where nobody lives or nobody drives on... we check nobody is anywhere near and take proteccion against everything... i plan things cause im really against street racing but i guess its all we can do, and i always have prioritys 1) no one is in danger in the road 2)no other cars going through the roads 3) dont bother anyone who lives near 4) drive at your pace dont go insane and damage property... people here sometimes get me mad cause theyre tired of me being protective but its what i do and well... im not gonna hurt anyone just for having fun that why i dont go around the street racing on any public road or highway...

PLEASE PLEASE hahaha sometimes i go with my friend just to see whats happening but never ever race in them... i guess well if u cant beat, watch what they do and learn from theyre erros hahahahaha
