View Full Version : Why does this keep happening?

Alright, I got and swapped my 240 about 2 1/2 months ago. And it seems like every 2 weeks or so I am replacing the turbo gasket and studs, and or nuts. I use grade 8 lock nuts, not the nylon ones the reg ones. But at first the nuts would come loose, so i put lock nuts on there, that helped but they would still come loose. Or I would snap a stud some how. I've replaced every stud and nut at least 4 times by now. Finally I managed to find those tabs, so I put those on and the nuts dont' come loose, well kinda. The front two are still tight with the tabs. But I snapped another stud on the back so since there was no nut for that tab to hold the opposite side nut came loose and fell off. Does anyone have a solution for this? Potential problems: no torque dampener or flex pipe in the down pipe. But I know friends that don't have those either and they seem to not have a problem. Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance.

flex pipe helps, how are your engine and tranny mounts, full exhaust will keep the gasket from blowing and they sell locking exhaust nuts that have a slit in them, use those with the locking tabs and all should be well

put a tack weld from the nut to the stud after its torqued properly.
worked for me.
when you wanna take it back off a little grinding is necessary, but you can be sure they wont come lose again.

Find nuts that same size with safety wire setups in them. Safety wire them all to a spot on the block if necessary. If you know what I'm talking about it is quite easy to do and very helpful.

I have Nismo mounts. I fixed the problem of them vibrating loose with those tabs, but for some reason I keep snapping the stud itself. I have no idea why it keeps doing that, other than maybe the motor torquing and not having a torque dampener or a flex pipe.

are you using oem stainless studs or just some autoparts store studs

Take your dp off and get a shop to install a flex-pipe on it. Double check your exhaust hangers and make sure theyre all there. If theyre fucked, that could be your reason right there. All the weight of the exhaust is on your DP and turbo. Also, how low is your car? Are you bottoming out the exhaust? If the flex pipe dont fix it, change your engine mounts too to harder types like cusco or kazama on top of the flex pipe.

is your flange on your DP warped? that could affect your gasket problem. but the studs and nuts thing. is whats above.
also for motor mounts JGS heavy duty mounts are AMAZING
