i have looked and looked and still have no answer to my problem
the dash lights don't come on,,,, it has one bulb that comes on when key to on but when i turn lights on it goes off, i have replaced my dimmer and little white box thing with working ones and still nothing? it started after i took the cluster out to have the hud fixed, i touched it against the ignition wires on accident. no blown fuses in kick panel.. the dummy lights also still work..any ideas??

You have a short in your illumination circuit and it burns out the time control unit (little white box thing). I had the same problem recently. When I did my silvia front conversion I wired up the fog lights on my dual projectors to the factory fog light wiring that all 240's have, which is fine. Unfortuanetly I tried to use the japanese fog light switch and it was putting power where it wasn't supposed to in the illumination circuit. Long story short, it burned out both of the time control units that I have before I figured it out. Take out your time control unit and remove the white cover and look for burned spots on the circuitboard.

both white boxes i tested were not burned.. and both work in my buddies car allong with the three dimmer all work in his car... i am stuck and my radio keeps reseting.. like the ignition wire to it has popped fuse.......wait let me go check that again....

Get a wiring diagram, without one you are just chasing your tail and guessing. If the time control and fuses are good then it might be in your cluster. Pull your dimmer switch out there should be 5 wires. Black(ground) blue and pruple(go to the time control module) and 2 other wires orange or red (I don't exactly remember the colors, but those are the illumination wires). There should only be power on one of the red or orange wires, if there is power on both then refer to my first post. If there is only power on one of those wires then it is probably your cluster. What was "repaired" in your cluster exactly?

the capacitor for the hud..

check those wires for power and if there is power on both then un-plug your cluster and see fi the power went away on one. If it did then whoever fixed your cluster actually fucked it up. If that is not the case then check for power at the light sockets in the back of the cluster. Bottom line is you need a wiring diagram.

if i add ground to the bulb on back of the cluster then they light up, (using a power probe) the two wires on top of each other blue and purple i think have power when you push the switch one way and power to the other when pushed the other way. ....white box is good(timing control unit) all fuses good, any other ideas? so there is power on both wires and a ground and dimmer wires? thanks for the ideas.....

ok another update.. if i turn the lights on and off the red/blue wire on the dimmer will get power and then no power ...so i believe the dimmer is good as well as the white box.... could the cluster not be getting ground?

Another thing to check is the turn signal switch, its integral to the whole turn signal arm and is tied into the whole lighting circuit for the car. I had that problem back in the day and it was causing dash lights to not work and brake lights to not light up. I switched it out and boom everything was fixed.

The illumination circuit is grounded through the dimmer switch. Check for ground on the black wire at the dimmer connector. Is there any power on the other red wire or no? Is there power at the light sockets on the back of the cluster? I need you to give me more info or I cannot help you. If you need a diagram then PM me with a fax # and I can send u one tomorrow. Please include exact year and model (SE, XE, etc) of the car in your PM if u send one.

My HUD cluster lights didnt light up, HUD didnt show up. The only things that worked were the LEDs and tach. But the tach did not light up. I replaced it with a analog cluster and everything lights up and works properly. So it could be just your cluster.

i have tried two diff clusters.
on the dimmer the black has ground i don't think the other red wire has power. the cluster is getting power because if i ground the other side of the light they all light up.
when the key is on on behind tach is on and when i turn lights on it goes off.
