I started my car up today and when pressed the clutch down it made a whining until I let off the clutch. I let the car warm up for a minute or two and the clutch started working like normal again w/ no whine. My friend said it's my throw out bearing most likely. So how long do you guys think I have till my clutch fully takes a dump on me?

A worn throw out bearing will make a whirling sound when you take your foot off the clutch. It depends on how old your clutch is, how you use it, etc. Need more info.

depends on how you drive it , mine does it when i let off slowly , has been doing it for 3 months, but i would recommend getting a new bearing as soon as you can.
so no big hurry, but something to look into.
what kinda clutch do you have?

i'm using a stock clutch right now. I got the clutch used about 1 year and a half ago.

Yea so i've read on a few other threads and some people said it's the throw out bearing when there's noise letting off on the clutch and some have said it's when pressing down on the clutch. I'm getting that whining noise as soon as i push the clutch down all the way. So can it be the throw out bearing in both instances?

hmm.. i never heard of it making noise when pressed in
but one thing is sure, something is "OFF" worn or messed up!
can you pull the tranny yourself?
if not itll be like250-300 to fix in most shops.

GOD NOT AGAIN! This it like the 10th thread recently where people don't know when the throwout bearing makes noise. THE THROWOUT BEARING WILL MAKE NOISE WHENEVER THE CLUTCH PEDAL IS DEPRESSED, PERIOD. It doesn't matter if you are pushing the pedal down or letting it up, if your foot is on the clutch and it makes noise and the noise goes away after you let off the clutch then it is almost certainly your throwout bearing!!!!!!

Bleed the clutch before you pull your trans. I had a problem with air in my line that made my slave not fully retract causing the TO bearing to make the infamous grinding / whirling noise. Try pumping the shit out of the clutch (like 20+ times) while in neutral then try to put in gear. If it helped then it's just air in your line. Pulling the trans is a bitch if your doin it yourself, and costly if not. Spend the 10 mins to try this out.

Air in the line would not prevent the throwout bearing from retracting EVER! Air would prevent the slave cylinder from traveling all the way and you would grind going into gear because the input shaft is still spinning.

Dude my car did the same thing two days ago.

It made that noise when i pressed it in....

took it to my mechanic and said it was the throw out bearings

I guess you will be needing a new clutch as well my freind :bite:

well it hasn't made that noise since so maybe it was air in the line? i don't know but if it starts happening consistantly i'll definitely be changing out to a new clutch and throw out bearing. thanks for everyones help and opinions.

I doubt it was air, bearing noises come and go sometimes. Good luck!
